Nicolas Sarkozy has sparked a bitter EU row by suggesting that the European Commissioner who compared his Roma policy to Nazi deportations should offer to host expelled gipsies in her native country of Luxembourg.
Great article!

I'm sure we'll welcome them here if nobody else wants them.

I'm surprised they didn't evict them via Sangatte. Nevertheless, it does seem a rather unseemly policy and a less than diplomatic response from Sarkozy. Interesting to see how this one pans out.

Why is it that the French appear to be quite happy with their country, and their government seem to realise that they need to get rid of people that either don't belong or don't wish to live by their rules. In the UK the gypsies would have been fasttracked to the top of social housing registers and then given some cash for food and to set up a car wash.

What is unseemingly is that governments are prevented from dealing with such people by the 'human rights' industry.

As an onwer of various business premises and land, I find Mr Sarkozy's comment refreshing. I tire of hearing how 'we' are not allowed to move travellers on - irrespective of damage and pollution they are causing - from our property and being told that 'they have right' too.

There are some genuine travellers out there, but there's at least as much, if not more, thieving scamming, fly-tipping scum and if those bleeding-heart lefties like them so much, then why don't they invite the pikeys to camp on their front gardens?

sorry, kick out illegals, all well and good, kick out criminal foreigners, fine

kick out people because you've decided that they belong to some group who are 'mostly' criminals - very dodgy

It sounds to me as though while the Reding woman has said that its wrong to kick the Roma out the rest of Luxembourg agrees with the French stance and doesn't want them either, just a slightly disconnected talking head in the EU commission- no surprise really.

Show me a travellers occupation that doesn't leave behind excrement, litter and 40 odd cubic yards of conifer cuttings.... Aside from the 'coincidental' rise in pilfering and scamming that any (tame) Police officer will (carefully) admit often acompanties said visits.

I agree, it all smacks a bit of genocide, but on the other hand there is a very fine line between being tollerant - which to an extent we ought to be - and allowing criminals to opt out of the society they prey on and despoil.

Sadly, few of us seem to recall how the persecution of minorities started and what it turned into. Some depressing views on here.

I was thinking more Pole Pot and the Khmer Rouge, does that absolve me of Godwin's Law?

The trouble with stereo types and generalisation is that they often turn out to be true and based on facts.

Keep calm and carry on. For now.

I do have an eye on you though.

anyway if everyone is so bothered by travellers why don't they charge them a daily fee just like tax that is collected.

In that case, gather the evidence and kick them out then. If the facts are there, no problem.
