Couple of questions from a new XKR owner

Hi all,
Recently bought myself a late 2002 4.2l XKR. The car has done about 95k, has a good service history and appears to run and drive excellently. It was bought from an independent dealer who has serviced and maintained the car for several years.
My question is about oil changes to the gearbox and supercharger. I know that these items are theoretically 'sealed for life' but from experience with other cars an oil change can prolong the serviceable life of such components. Has anybody on here had the oil to these items changed? If so were there any problems? What oils were used? And lastly... what was the approximate cost?
By the way, the car is a wonderful drive. My previous jalopy was a Merc CLK55 AMG which was a quick and very well engineered car but the Jag knocks spots off it in terms of fun and driver involvement.

Yes you need to change the oil as the car has done 95K
I know the oil is expecive but the gearbox does need the correct oil so best to get it from Jaguar
You will need to know someone that knows what to do as the oil is a job to change and get to the correct level

The supercharger has no oil to change. But yes the gearbox oil should be changed to prolong life, Mercedes boxes are recommended to be changed every 60k but Jag dont stipulate this as its 'sealed for life'. Like Norman says, go to a specialist & it must be the right oil.

Mercedes dealers also dispute the obvious need for an oil change in that gearbox. The Mrs as the same box in her E-Class. I know there is a MB service note about it, some point posted a link to it once. But the main dealers deny this and insist it is sealed for life.

I'm currently phoning around for prices re the gearbox oil change. Looks to be about £250 plus vat to do it with the correct oil.
I'm pretty sure that mine does not have a Mercedes gearbox but instead has the later ZF 6 speed item which requires a different spec oil.
Any one here know of a good Jag or auto box specialist in the Brighton/ Sussex area they could recommend?

hi friend, been through this my self, it much cheaper to buy the oil your seof the net, just google esso LT71141 and you get a 20l can for about £125 deliverd, then just go to an indy auto guy, i found there clued up on them and if not just search it on here and the instructions are around, most places will only be an hours labour, the 20L can will also do you 2x changes because they dont drop all the oil, so if you do it then say for arguments sake wait another 10k( id wait longer just for cost and should be fine anyway) then change again( hours labour again) once its had time to dilute the old oil again and you should be good, DO NOT LET ANYONE TELL YOU ANY DEXRON (INC AUTO GUYS) IS OK COZ ITS NOT!, good luck

As Denis says there is oil in the supercharger.

Not the cheapest as including oil it comes to about £400 but if I can get some more miles out of a 95k autobox (which is running fine by the way), it will be money well spent. I will enquire about the supercharger also.

As Norm says you have to remove the plug at the front 5mm allen key, with a syringe and a rubber pipe joined to it you have to suck out the old oil. In it place you put this stuff CLICK HERE
