This van driver was convicted after throwing a bottle of Lucozade at a cyclist who had a helmet camera recording everything. The video on that site is quite interesting.

good use of a helmet cam though:P Had thought about setting up some kind of recording device on my car, would always be useful to use in an accident/ or forget about if my fault :P
The video was discussed on another thread, but its great to hear of the van driver being prosecuted. Fecking dangerous stuff he does.
Some argue that the cyclist shouldn't have reacted initially (which is perhaps a valid point), but it certainly doesn't excuse the van drivers subsequent actions (and that cyclists reactions are probaly tame in comparison to how I would have reacted, rightly or wrongly)

First of all, I ride a bike. Before I get jumped on I'll say that again.
I regularly cycle on the road.
The van driver was a tool BUT the cyclist had no right to slap the side of his van, it would have sounded much louder inside the vehicle and could have caused the driver to [wake up and then] swerve and cause an accident.
The driver was an arse but I cannot be doing with the militant bike brigade.

Maybe he should have been up for criminal damage and a public order offence based on this footage.

though if you do act aggresively, people will do it back to you, often for no other reason than you did it to them.

I think you two need to watch the clip again - look how close the van driver runs the cyclist towards the kerb just before the 'van slap' takes place.When the van driver pulled out:-
If he was aware that the cyclist was coming (but decided to pull out anyway) he should have accelerated hard so as not to inconvinience the cyclist (and should have been well out of reach of the cyclist).
If he wasn't aware that the cyclist was coming (and hadn't seen him) then I think a slap on the van is a reasonable thing to do to make sure the driver knew he was there.
Personally, I think it was the former, and the van driver deliberately ran him towards the kerb just before tha van slap took place.

Hmm, I'm not fully with the cyclist on this one.
I drive. I ride a bike. In both cases, youg et jumped out on like this quite often when you think about it. Do you ever hit the car out of ire? i admit that the van driver's first jump out was crappy driving, but the cyclist was the one who upped the ante by hitting the van.

No but I did hit the back of one as I was unable to stop in time. Despite me falling off and the potential for injury they drove off leaving me to pick the gravel out of my leg (again).I drive.
