After months of intermittent misfiring, especially when cold, I bit the bullet and went to a rolling road tuner recommended by a few aothers on here.
Adjustments to the air flow meter, new expansion tank cap, temperature sensor and it's running like a dream.
I didn't realise that a power run would be part of the test but it returned 178bhp @ 5000rpm and 187lbft @ 4700. Both were maintained for 1 minute and registered 121mph @ 5000rpm
As far as I'm aware the car has never been tweaked.
I'm just glad the car isn't running as lumpy as school dinner custard but confused about the original bhp/lbft? TVRSSeries.com has figures of 168bhp and 172lbft. Any ideas?
If anyone is interested the tuner was Tommy at Willfield Motors, Abercynon.
Cheers,
SteveO

i've been thinking of having a rolling road diagnostic done just to know that everything is running ok
can these guys get the car running any better bhp fuel etc ? than your local servicing garage
out of interest whats the next step for tunning a 2.9i v6 to improve things without spending to much !

YES !Bear in mind this engine is twenty or so years old, unless your local guy is at least in his forties he's quite possibly never worked on one (or maybe even seen one ?)
If the garage you choose are not very familiar with this engine you could run up a big bill with extra time spent trying to find/sort problem or replacing unneccessary parts (imho)

I agree about getting someone who's familiar with the older engines. Willfield has been around for a long time and was recommended by PH'ers and a friend who gets his 1967 Cortina 1600e tuned there for rally racing.
The problems I had with rough running from cold were nowhere to be seen this morning, even when crawling in traffic which was when it was really bad.
I'll keep an eye on mpg now. Over the last 3000 odd miles I was getting 27mpg average, worst 23, best 33.
