growing chillis indoor

I grew them indoors on the kitchen window ledge i had to stop in the end as i had massive problems with flies nesting in the soil, there were hundreds. I'm waiting till i have a house with space for a greenhouse before i try again, i did have some very nice chillis though. The seeds were a triple pack from b and q with three varieties.
It's a bit late to grow them indoors now, you should be sowing in the 1st week of feb, they need 15-20c to germinate.
A prolific fruiter is Cayenne and they are very easy to grow although if you get the large variety they can get to about 3' tall, I have a plant with 6" chillies ripening now, I also have jalapeno and scotch bonnet, all are easy to grow in a south facing window.
I water 2-3 times a week by plonking them in the sink.
If you grow them indoors you have to pollinate the flowers with a brush or do what I do and stick them outside once the evenings start to rise above 12-14c and leave them out there until it starts to get below those temps.
ETA I use john innes 2 in my pots but you could mix some hair or egg shell in some compost.

I have got one chilli plant, long green thin chillis which a mate gave to me. Got a few good chillis off it but its not grown much and i wondering how i could improve things.
It sits in the kitchen on the window ledge and gets a fair bit of light.
Could leds be used to help the growth of the plant?

I just brought mine in yesterday after being out since spring, as I saw the nightime temps are going to drop under 10C. Picked up a few plants last year, and tried growing Serrano's from seed although I panted them too late last year. They made it through winter on the kitchen window sill, along with 1 bought plant. Over summer I have had a steady supply of fresh chillis, and everytime I visit mates who cook, pick a handful of ripe chillis for them.
What should I do to keep them happy over winter? All are 1-1 1/2 foot tall, and between them have about 50 chillis on them.
But one plant was a late bloomer, only has 4 mature ones, and has probably 30 about to flower.
