Is a Sea Dweller 116660 a wise buy?
Discussion
Iam seriously considering this watch because I love the look of it and want a fairly safe investment. But there are quite alot of nearly new ones on the market and I dont want to take a big loss on it if they become unpopular.
Is it worth paying 5k for one or is it best going for a new Submariner instead?

Pre-owned Deepsea's are selling for less than people paid for them new, but if you really want the bigger watch, go fot it - just not brand new.
Given that's also, a bigger, less elegant design than the model it's replacing I expect the new Sub will go the same way, once the initial novelty wears off.

I am consider a DSSD as well...
Is it expensive, yes, is it popular...? It would appear it may not be and when you think about it, as someone else mentioend, this has often been a good indicator of future investment potential (though it may be long term).
I have looked at vinatge Daytonas and alike and I think the prices are still very strong at the moment, hence they don't necessarily look like good investments. Now, I am more interested in currentw atches that would be keeprs until such time that they can look after us in our old age.
Having said that, obviously not all vintage watches have hit their peak and I visit the vintage watch stand in a flea market in Singapore every week, trying to identify watches that I would like, which may represent a godo investment. Still, who knows how to spot them!?

Picked mine up last night (thanks Dom) and I’m a very happy chappie, it looks stunning, it does sit high but it is nowhere near as large as I thought it would be after the comments I had read on here and other places, the micro adjustment is very easy and makes it a very comfortable watch to wear.
They might not appeal to the serial flipper, but if you intent to keep it for a bit I think they are a safe bet.

You will get a 10/10 recent used SD for under £4k from a dealer...
Or an 8 or 9 grade for just over £3k privately.
I've been looking.
I don't know where you've been looking, but I haven't seen any at that price. TZ has been filled with them at £3300 upwards, £4k for a minter. Or an 8 or 9 grade for just over £3k privately.

There have been several links to V-Serial unworn ones at online dealers at £4k+.
ETA And as much as I'd like an SD, they aren't worth that IMO.

Maybe they've dropped a touch then?
They managed to get very overpriced when everyone bought them thinking they'd be a great investment, but there are so many about that may have been wishful thinking... They'll hold well, but wont be the massive investment folks hope for. JIMHOjshell said:
