I went to Kwik-Fit today and had a puncture fixed for free. I also said I need might need a couple of front tyres for the car (Boxster S) in the near future. He gave me a quote but told me to buy them online as they were much cheaper. However, they didn't do the Michelins that I wanted, so the guy is going to call me back in the morning with a price.
Seems like good service to me.
eta: The car also has corroded brakes all round and they could ideally do with being replaced, they didn't mention this or try it on with me at all.

I took my old car there for the A/C check, apparently it "pissed the gas out m8". Hmm, I then took it elsewhere,the leak was so small it worked for 2 days & they had to use UV dye to find it. In other words, s

Even though I don't pay for them it has been a poor experience with wheel balancing not done properly (even after returning to get it done again).
In the end I got the wheels balanced at a local independent with my own cash - which was refunded by KF sharpish after I passed a complaint through our fleet manager & the lease company. The lease company guy actually phoned me to ask if it was OK for the KF manager to phone me direct (which I agreed to). But I never got a call.
My next car is going to be with a different lease company - here's hoping for more choice of tyre supplier.

30 years ago I took my car into the local Kwikfit and they told me it needed a lot of work doing on it and I was telling my mates about it in the pub that night.
It was suggested that I take it to an independent (Motivation in Harrogate) I took it there the following day and he fixed it as the last job of the day and it was a lot less than KF quoted and some of their 'recommendations' did not need doing.
I used Motivation for the next 25 years for all my cars.

I recently had two new tyres fitted (NOT by Kwik Fit) and unusually the valves weren't replaced at the time.
Within days one side developed a leak, and I traced it to the valve.
I took the car to my local Kwik Fit, and watched while he deflated the tyre and then he showed me the corrosion around the base of the valve. He went to the trouble of cleaning the corrosion with a file (on both wheels) and fitting new valves (with the correct chrome sleeve) and inflated to the correct pressures and refitted.
Total cost to me? £0.
I gave the fitter a £10 tip for his trouble.
I wouldn't be surprised to find that just like any garage, there are good ones and bad ones.
It just so happens that Kwik Fit is a national chain, and therefore more readily exposed.

- I have no affiliation with Kwik Fit, I'm just a satisfied customer - but I do accept that there are others not as happy as myself.

Easier and cheaper then getting your hands dirty..
But, i suspect they do this just to go over your brakes, tyres and shocks with an aim to selling you those at the same time.
Oddly enough i went to one Monday to get the tracking done on my daughters Micra (it's opposite work and they give us a 15% discount). When leaving it was soon clear that the steering wheel was off centre by 90 degrees and the car pulled all over the place. Turns out the battery had run flat in their laser so couldn't finish, but forgot to tell me to bring it back the following day
