"This message originates in..."

Had someone contact me about my car. Says he's in Southampton, but at the top of the message is states "This Message originates in Ireland"

I assume this is calculated based on the senders IP address? I'm just a suspicious person I guess, just wondered how the system located people?

You are correct, the system uses a third party company to look at a collection of details of the sender and use that to work out where the sender is from.

The system could get it wrong, but it is an indicator to be more careful when dealing with that potential buyer.
