I would have thought they are standard 94mm rings.
So any of the regular suppliers

If you want to measure them I can compare them to my new standard 4.0 / 4.6 ones. (waiting to be fitted)

Are they not just a standard Cosworth/Omega (insert make of piston) piston ring, most engine shops should be able to supply them off the shelf?

TVRcarparts? Surely someone like John Eales or V8 Developments would have them, or know where to source them?

try these guys, very knowledgable and helpful and at a fraction of the cost of tvr rings, I got a set for my ajp for £150 delivered last year.

I'd go with this. The 390 was 93.5mm bore; when Rover introduced the 4L engine they went out another 20 thou to 94mm. Allegedly ( wink ) depending on when a 400SE was built, there was more standard Rover in there and less NCK magic. The 400SE's I've seen in bits appear to have the same pistons as my car - ie 94mm with a slight dish (like mine, some have valve pockets too). A 400SE with no valve pockets would likely be a bog-stock Rover motor IMHO, so standard 94mm rings would be the way to go.

AFAIK he got the flat top Cosworth pistons, same as I have in my 400SE, I never changed the rings on mine though, as I did not have this block honed.
I've given him a old set of LR 4.0 rings for him to compare to his, so fingers crossed.
Else it could get complex once, more of our engines start to get older and need work, saying that if you have too much wear your going to need, new over size pistons and rings, unless you get new liners.

Sound a bit of a nightmare, do they have any more, as maybe handy to keep some just in-case.

when I rebuilt my 400se engine I got some VERY nice rings from the USA (BUICK type) which were gapless - improved compression and reduced blow past. made a difference I am sure..

You know that there is 1 ring to rule all rings...

When i rebuild the engine in the seac i called john e engineering as the pistons in my engine are omega forged and the rings are racing type.
Je engineering is the place to go.

You just have to establish the diameter and thickness. None of this cosworth mystery racing ring nonsense.

Heck, all this time? If you'd sent me the rings it could have been specced in a week unless they're amazingly unique? Which they won't be. Still, at least you should have them soon which is good. smile
