List of items needed for Euro Road Trip/Rally (please add)

As I've mentioned in other posts, my friends and I are off next week on a Euro Rally - from the UK, over to Laon, then onto Thun, Locarno and ending in Mestre. On the way back we will be dropping into Verona, Lake Garda, Innsbruck, Munich, Frankfurt and the Nurburgring.

Have made a list of items required, (some obtained/others not yet!) would appreciate if anyone can suggest anything else they would consider useful/helpful. It's a Rover 820Si btw...

- Spare tyre
- Jack
- Lug wrench
- 12V air pump
- Big bottle of water (dodgy coolant tank)
- Bottle of oil (10W/40)
- Container with emergency petrol
- Small spanner set including torch
- Spare bulbs
- Warning triangle
- High vis jackets
- Tyre weld
- Snow chains (wonder if these may be needed)
- Fuses

Any other suggestions?

Passport and pants required of course.

In France, keep the Hi Viz jackets in the doorpockets and not in the boot - the Gendarmerie will expect you all to put them on as soon as you get out of the car if stopped.

There may be a technicality in that not all passengers need them - but cover your wallet and have one Hi Viz for each person in the nearest door bin .

Washers. Well, this is what I needed for my ZR, the heatshield over the exhaust fell off the other week, but thebolts were still in tight, along with a nice circle of the heatshield around the bolts!

Ditto the duct tape. You can put bumpers back on, even doors with that stuff if you have to.

Drive the car regularly before you go, and fix anything that breaks. Including the coolant tank.

Also take a carrier bag for memories and lift everything paper and/or small to put in the bag. Get menus, hotel bills, drinks mats, ticket stubs. Buy a few postcards too. The memories will come flooding back when, years later, you look through the bag.

Unfortunately we do need to take the Rover, it's a banger rally (max £500). I said we should have taken an E34 5er but we're doing an Alan Partridge theme with the gold Rover and graffiti.

Header tank is now sorted.

Headgasket is what I'm worried about. I was uner the impression that with Rover it's a case of 'when' rather than 'if'. Fanbois can correct me.

Just read the policy carefully before you buy. The name and shame policy may be applied (feel free Mods) but I wouldn't stand in line for any sort of direct policy, I'd look elsewhere.

Dont forget 1st aid kit, When I drove through france I had the High vis on the back of the seats so the police could see them when passing, just did not want to get pulled, also snowchains only needed for alps, however they can refuse entry at the border if they deem it neccessary for you to have them.

Couple of pop up tents, energy drinks (asda special), carry cash all the time in france, change your wipers before you go, rained st loads when i drove through france & i had ste wipers, mp3 player/cd's as french/german radio is st but if you can get a station called 'stu-bru' do it! it was just constant 90's dance/garage, loved it!
