what to do

I have spotted a "E" reg S TVR local to me, I guess it's a S2. It has been in a field with a tarp half covering it for must be three or more years now and has only moved once from the middle of the field to the edge, don't know if it was towed or under own power? The question is what do I do, should I approch the field owner and see if he wants rid or as I have very little money to spend on it leave it be.

How much is it to restore something like that, I have no idea what condition it is in???

How long is a piece of string

I'd budget £500 to £5000. So many variables, obviousley condition of car, standard you want to achieve, how much work can you do yourself etc etc etc.......

As I think you already know, its current condition will determine what it will cost to bring it up to roadworthy and whether it is a viable prospect compared to buying a solid working car.

You have nothing to lose by asking for a look under the tarp and if you know what you are looking at you will get a feel right away. Someone who knows their way around an S would be a good companion.

what is your budget ? there are some pretty low price cars out there at the minute...

Depending on what he wants for it you could ask if he wants rid inspect it slow time and then make a decision - restore or break - the parts if it is complete will be worth a bit - shame to see another go, but better as parts than decaying in a field

If it's an 'E' reg it will be an S1, so will have an 2.8 cologne engine. Totally the best sounding one!

Many thanks to you all and appologies for not responding sooner. But I have just returned from the BCCC at Sweet Lamb in mid Wales.

I don't really have a budget and it would take alot of pursuading to get my wife to accept another car in the garage. Thanks Tink and Jaye, I am in Holmfirth so not far away at all, not really about to buy another car but thanks for your offers.

The reason for the post was to see if any one new how nuch these cars are worth as scrap, not that I intend to scrap it, and I know the question of restoration costs was a real stab in the dark and dependant on condition, but if the farmer wants some money for it I would only offer him low scrap and if it wasn't a cost effective project then it would stay where it is and I would post all I knew for someone else if interested.

Hey Matt.

I share the same building as the NORC Torque Performance boys from Keighley 2nd place at Sweet Lamb behind Robin Clarkson I understand, mental car the Focus M3 jobby.
Paul is itching to build himself a Stratos with a silly engine, they are going to sort my chassis of the V8.

Ok here we go.

The car is not for sale. It was boought by the current owner in 2000, when it needed a new engine they installed a cosworth lump then left it out side there parents house where I had spotted it. The intention is to restore the car so all is not lost. THe owner has money invested in it so I am sure it will return to the roads one day.

There were lots of interesting cars there and not many spectators. It is the only motor sport I know where everyone is so friendly and open to talk to people even when their weekend has been ended during the first lap of the day.

The M3 Focus was just bonkers. Very rapid over any terrain!!!!!

There was also a few people there with standard Freelanders, straight from the road but with the air bag removed and a roll cage fitted. not fast but alot of fun no doubt and quite cheap.
