My nana is very ill and today gave me £1500 which will be spent on a watch that will always remind me of her.
Am thinking of going secondhand to get something special.
Already have oris, omega, glycine, rado and tag watches so would prefer something different, either automatic or manual is fine would ideally like an open back case.
Would love an iwc, jaeger le coultre, a longe and son, Rolex. but confident I wouldn't get one for my budget, and not sure I want to add anything as may feel it detracts from the feeling of it being bought by my nanas money.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated, thanks for reading and have a good day.

Sorry to hear about your Nan.

How about a Tudor? A quick look on watches.co.uk shows this for £1295

And I really like the look of this Zenith for £1795

Have to agree, those two are rather nice, not too keen on that CD myself, but for £800 it looks decent value.

Don't have to spend all of the money, but does need to be a very special watch. I did see the zenith are they really as well made as people say?
Also seen that Ian blowers had a France muller for £1750 which is now sold assumed they would be more but of o could find another that might tempt me, otherwise very tempted for the zenith. As like the watch and heard good things about the brand, plus I know the seller and have used them quite a bit.

Thanks for the suggestions and please keep them coming.

The Rolex Daytona used the Zenith El Primero movement (without the date) for a while. Google it, it's got a great reputation and is still considered by some to be the best automatic chrono movement. In fact the longer I look at the Zenith the more I want to buy it myself!

Get the El Primero if you can.

If the budget is firm then (with tertius' caveat regarding undisclosed restorations worth checking) the vintage 50s Lemania chrono I am faffing about deciding whether or not to buy looks lovely.

Don't buy a daily-wear with your Nan's money. Get something special, and I'd be tempted to get something special and vintage, as at the risk of sounding crass, I'd find it hard to reconcile fond memories of an elderly (assuming what seems obvious that your Nan is elderly) lady with a new, big, lairy modern watch such as NeMiSiS' choice (why the random upper and lower case stuff, this ain't a hacker forum). And no, I'm not stone-throwing, I just don't think it's appropriate considering the circumstances.

An elegant vintage piece that isn't subjected to the rough and tumble of daily wear would be more apt, no?

I've posted it before (since I'm thinking of buying it):

Struggling with the zenith as can appreciate that's its a good watch its just that its so similar looking to the oris I already have (i know there not in the same league though) the last option is not a make I have heard of and therefore is not something I've aspired to own of you see what I mean. The tudor watch is a no as whilst I know I'm doing it a disservice I can't help but think of them along the same lines as must de Cartier watches.

The franck muller option is looking good at the moment of I can find one near to budget. I agree that it will definitely be a special occasion watch.

Will find the muller link.

Steel Franck Muller Cintre
Curvex Casablanca 5850. Automatic movement. Polished steel case 38mm x 32mm.
White dial with luminous Arabic numerals, luminous lozenge shaped hands. Tan
croc strap steel FM buckle.

£1,750 SOLD

Sorry about the budget creeping, but I'd be sorely tempted to fund an extra £295 from my own pocket for this beautiful Chopard Mille Miglia:

Not sure why but the chord just doesn't do anything for me.

I have been after a tag microtimer and have found a new one for £1100 which seems a bit steep, was a bit tempted to just get this but as said before I really should buy something special.
I have a ss Rolex that used to be my grandads which is the first watch I ever owned of any real value which is why I would like to do the same with my nanas money as both from my dads side and only grandparents I have ever known.

I know I'm being far too difficult but think the rubber strap on the iwc stops it being a special occasions ie suit watch. The zenith watch again is just too similar to my oris both in strap and face otherwise is perfect, have seen the white faced version and not sure about it keep looking at it to try and make my mind up.
Have tried to find another franck muller at my kind of price point but struggling at under £2k. What are peoples thoughts on these?
