Would you buy a car without ABS?

For me the answer is "no".

When this technology is available on cheapo econoboxes how on earth do some car builders think they can get away without it? IIRC it's standard equipment on every Ferrari, Porshe and Lotus and has been for years.

Delete air bags? Delete crumple zones? I think not!

Yes. I'm not Jensen Button but even i've managed to drive cars quickly without it and not crash, and also a motorbike. Just try not getting yourself into situations where panic braking occurs... simples.

I would and have done, had a Tuscan and just sold a Tamora they don't need ABS as the braking system is perfect without it, it's just the overbearing nanny state using scaremonger tactics to make us think we need it.

ABS is for fkwits who lack car control. Just last week a almost went into the back of someone, because the road was bumpy and the abs didnt like it, so i couldnt reeally brake

I have 4 cars without ABS. Admittedly one of them is **supposed** to have ABS; I will get round to fixing it at some point.

When my car was built (1971) very few road cars had abs, and even then it was pretty rubbish.

Yes, I've owned plenty of cars without ABS but I'd always prefer to have it.

I have never had a car with ABS and don't want it either. I managed to ride my bike every day last winter without dying once. New bike deos have it either.

Apart from some very low production stuff like Caterham's etc, which mainstream production cars do you know of that don't have it?

The only reason I ask, is because it became a standard requirement for all new production cars from 2006, and from next year, all new cars will also have to have stability management too (ESP, DSC, or whatever name manufacturers have for it)

Two Caterhams (with a third ready for build) and a Cerbera later and I think on a fun car it's irrelevant but I'm glad of ABS in the Winter in my commuter.

I do value the electronics and insist our main faily cars have the works but it wont stop me from buying something exciting, like a Mk2 Golf GTI (20 valve turbo flavour), as I managed for years without it all and I cycle to work most days so if I were that bothered I wouldnt entertain mixing it uncaged with the Cheshire school run mums in their Q7's, pissed from lunch whilst on the Iphone.

You are in control of your own destiny to a certain extent and you can still die in a modern car with all the gizmos.
