I'm slowly restoring a Grantura 2a which has a damaged steering box, I've seen a few around that have been converted to rack and pinion, is it worth changing and what car do people get the new parts from?

Thanks,
Michael

Hallo Michael,
I did the conversion on my Mk1. I used a triumph steering rack from spitfire and had a set of rods made by AMSteer.

I bought them here :
Amsteer Sales Ltd.
tel +44 1827 61000
info@amsteer.co.uk

they can make what ever you want. So the best thing is to send an original rod to them to show them the tapered side. They measure it and they make an exact high quality copie for a very reasonable price.

First you gring the old brackets of the old steeringrack away and you weld a bar in front of the pillar in the middle . I will send you a clear picture of this later this week.

good luck
William

Thanks, those photos are brilliant. How far from the front pillar have you mounted the rack?

The space between front pillar and rack is 42 mm
