Great film its on sky anytime now, I didnt understand why Travolta / Ryder wanted to influence the stock market AND take a share of the $10m, surely he had a bgetter chance of escaping if he was light ?
Also why not stay in the bloody hotel not go into the street with a big bag and a easy spot face ?
Hmmmmm

Why did they remake it? The Walther Matthau / Robert Shaw one is fantastic!
Agreed. An largely unacknowledged classic, and considering it pre-dates CGI, the filming and cinematography is pretty impressive. And the very last scene/ending is brilliant. Talk about "Close, but no cigar"

I've not watched the remake, because I don't want to get angry at the yanks for ruining yet another classic. Plus there's that arse Travolta in it.
Is it a decent remake, or is it in the "The italian Job" stakes as a remake?
Or is it one of those pretentiously titled "re-imaginings" that the Septics talk about now the idea of a "remake" has been explained to them?Is it a decent remake, or is it in the "The italian Job" stakes as a remake?

Was the Italian Job a remake? Seems to me the only similarities between the two films were that Minis were heavily involved. Either way, the new Pelham 123 isn't a patch on the original - I wonder if anyone told the scriptwriters you don't have to say f*** every other word to sound menacing. Is it a decent remake, or is it in the "The italian Job" stakes as a remake?

The original was a highly tense gripping thriller, where you really didn't know for sure where the plot was going to go.
The trailer for the remake featured lots of stuff blowing up. My expectation is that they missed the point of the original. Anyways, noone can raise an eyebrow with the style of Walter Matthau, so the ending will be weaker no matter what.
Since you lot ^ haven't given me any reason to change my mind, I'll make a point of not buying the dvd, then rant at the telly when it's on channel 5 net year =)

No it isnt as good as the original, but then what hollywood remake ever is? It isnt a bad film, if you can get past the swearing, and both travolta and washington give good performances, so i dont think you will ranting at the telly too muchThe trailer for the remake featured lots of stuff blowing up. The Four Feathers and Flight of the Phoenix are two films where I have both the originals and remakes and enjoy both equally. I also prefer the modern version of The Thomas Crown Affair too.Antony Moxey said:
