little problem: i've topped up the oil yesterday and now i have excess and the car smokes up at start...which is normal: burning the excess

question: is it really bad? am i gonna damage the engine (i know it's wrong)?
Should i drop by the shop tomorrow morning just to get the mechanic drain a little?

Off for a France road trip next thursday...should be another spirited 2,000km biggrin

Pierre,
You must drain it out, you are pumping oil into the inlet system which will clog up your cats.

Call me if you need some help.

Tim.

my mechanic wasn't in this morning - so couldn't drain anything, and the car smokes each time i start it.

Is there an easy way for me to drain like 0.5litres out? i don't think any more than this: the oil level is 1cm above the second little hole "indicator" on the stick
(the manual says that between the first and second hole there is 1litre only)

Also: what pressure should i read on the little indicator at the bottom of the dash: at idle the needle is on the left but when i accelerate it goes towards the right (normal) but should it go to the max?

Which oil do you guys recommend?

Did you follow the specific instructions to check the oil, not sure what it is on the 360 but something like - run for 10 minutes, ensure oil temp is to normal running level, switch off and check level immediately? If you are checking it cold or not following the exact instructions you could have amuch greater excess than the 1cm you mention

thanks 355 - yeah checking with the car running hot - exactly like you are saying...checked 3 times since toping the oil up

thanks will - i was thinking about using straws or a pipe and suck on it myself - will be alot easier wink

You can check with the motor running, no need to switch off.

Not CAN check - you MUST check with it running. Also, 10 mins running may not be enough - ensure the engine is right up to full temp.

If your suction pump doesn't work at first then you'll have to run the engine to get the oil hot - then it will be higher up in the tower & also less viscous & it'll come out easily.

i've tried it yesterday - taste like crap! i couldnt source a suction pump, so had to use a tube and use it as a straw...yuk

and i didnt get much out, too hard

and i'm off the next two days to Europe/business trip and only back thursday morning, but we are going to France with it thursday night frown

Is it really that bad - my estimation is that i'm 300ml over (1cm above the second marker)

Yes it really is that bad, you're sucking oil into the intake and breather system, you should be trying to get it back down to a normal level.

I never let the oil level in my 430 go above mid way to avoid this very problem. You really should get it sorted.

John.
