hi
i have been looking at cheap cars that might be a little bit of fun for under a grand while i sort my mg zs out.
i have narrowed it down to either ;
vectra sri v6
golf vr6 5 door
mondeo st24 saloon
audi a4 2.8 se (fwd)
bmw 525 se e34 manual
saab 9-3 2.0 turbo se

what do you guys think is the best for fun while fitting all the new born baby stuff in and being reliable and maybe retaining over 25mpg?
all the ones i looked at are manual, with over 9 months m.o.t and look in good condtion, most have fsh
thanks guys

Knock a couple hundred off, and spend that on getting someone to throw a new box on it (to be on the safe side)

Then have some fun smile

A Saab 9000 Aero would fit the bill, may be tricky to find a good one though

Is it me or do the pictures look like they were taken at the EVO magazine office car park?

I may be biased, but an mk 1 Octavia VRS is rapidish, roomy and economical to run. Can also be remapped biggrin

I'm not usually one to pick up on this sort of thing but come on, it's the second line of the OP

x2. 2.3 turbo would be fine though.

I've had a few T5s (hence the username), nice cars but lots of small faults which are annoying an expensive to put right.... plus they are all completely shagged at sub 1k, the good ones still change hands for decent money, especially the estates.

What about an Omega MV6? SAAB 9-3, 9-5, 9000? Rover 620 TI.

im looking at spending about 1k. its just a cheap throw away car that still puts a smile on my face and fits all the baby stuff in.

i like the 600 ti's and i know there in budget and id get a good one, just worried about rust and gearbox problems.
i like the idea of a nice v6 but a decent turbo car il think about. would rather new as possible and low milage with a nice engine.

I'd add a +1 for the 9000 Aero; I just got rid of mine. They're totally bombproof, astonishly fast and safe. Mine was under a grand and a bit leggy but that's really nothing to worry about.
