Whats the E90 320d like?

Slow isnt a word I would use. I find it more than acceptable for daily driving.
I've done 30k in mine since March 2009, and never found it lacking (although I do generally have something else to drive for hooning). 177bhp is hardly underpowered, and it drives unlike many diesels. It didnt even feel much slower than the 3.,0 tdi A4 we ran for a while. I've seen an easy 145 leptons out of in on the track, and I think the manual is 7.8 to 60. Add to that 49mpg over 30k...

I done about 10k miles earlier in the year in an E90 320d SE,
This car was coming to the end of the lease with the company I work for, ans was well over 110k when I took it over.
Drove very well, was quick enough certainly, indicated 145mph a few times and I think I was averaging something like 46-47 mpg.
Handled well enough to be entertaining, even sounded okay for a diesel.
As a family car they are pants, cant turn the front airbag off and the version I had the rear seat didn't fold and as the boot is fairly small it meant I couldn't fit a full size push chair in.
The SE versions interior is odd, everyone who sat in it commented on how basic it was, but it had everything you could reasonably need.
I'd have one.

Surprisingly unrefined at idle - the whole car shook as it clattered away, didn't feel any quicker than the 140bhp VW PD diesel I'd turned up in, and the interior was shockingly spartan.
And if it's important to you - rear legroom and bootspace is a bit of a bad joke for a car that size.

Depends on your expectations I suppose. My ex ran a 320d SE for a couple of years. I found it very comfortable, tourquey with sufficient poke. Never felt underpowered and in SE trim came with all the toys you realistically need.
A nicely specced 330 or 335d it ain't but absolutely nothing wrong with it all.
