The craziest thing I have ever seen....Porlock Hill today.

This afternoon, on the escape road at the bottom of the notorious 25% Porlock Hill near Lynton, North Devon....a family parked up on the entrance to the escape road having a picnic, with their small son, aged around three making sandcastles in the sand immediately behind their Mondeo..

If a runaway lorry or car had ploughed into their car, it would have pushed the car back and that would have been the last sandcastle he ever made.......

No, although in retrospect I should have done, I wish I had had my camera with me...I did think of stopping to give them a piece of my mind, but it was on a bad bend and there was a fair queue of cars behind me......

I have never seen anything like it it forty years of driving.....

Apart from the risk to child, that's fecking hilarious. Porlock Hill is, indeed, distinctly treacherous, and the corner of which you speak is the massively steep, hairpin bit. Utterly ludicrous. THe moor about 1 mile up the road is massive, with lovely scenic parking places. But then again you ALWAYS see people picknicking directly beside their car in laybys.

Utterly unbelievable- And it's not just light traffic that uses that road! I so wish you could have got a picture.
