I didn't think we had that many serviceable. I'm guessing a couple of Meteors are looking after the Bears off Scotland today then?

No, no no, that will be the Typhoon's job. Oh hang on.... erm, as you were.

Four on QRA, four on exercise in Slovakia, a couple long term dead, one stripped (wings off fin off and ready for a road move to Duxford) in bits in the hanger, and another suffering from electrical fire damage.

They were taking part in the Battle of Britain commemorations in London. They were 4 GR4s from RAF Marham. Originally was supposed to be 4 Typhoons.

Four Tornados flew in formation over here in Essex earlier today, then a Lancaster this afternoon, awesome sights!

Thought I heard the Lancaster earlier on this afternoon. The parents heard the Tornados but didn't see them. I was up in London watching the Spit/ Hurricane flypasts, and the GR4s smile

Was supposed to be the last jet out of the hanger, power was applied as we were pulling off the hyd hoses for some leckie funcs. Someone noticed smoke coming from the crate. So we knocked the power off, and opened the radome. The looms leading from the power socket to the CB panel were alight. No CB's blew, so the airframe would have been live as we worked on it had we not earthed it. So a cautionary tale of the importance of always earthing the jet.

The more scary proposition was that we were doing refuel checks next, and we would have earthed the jet to the bowser yikes

Now the jet sits requiring a large amount of work, it had been ear marked to be one of the last ones, but the hanger is now shut, so there's no man power available to work the jet. We also can't strip it as those of us that know how to remove wings are either posted or now on Tremblers.

The Lancaster was very low, west to east, perhaps heading into Southend? Fantastic sight!

Damn you mean they were not sent to bomb the Pope? That's irritating.

I expect they rang Moscow.

"Hello, is that the Kremlin? Would you mind awfully not sending any planes over this afternoon?"
