A Spit & a 4 cannon Hurricane (BBMF) flew over my house at just a couple of hundred feet!

Being a massive fan of both aircraft this caused goose bumps to form on my goose bumps!

The sound of those Merlins is just bloody amazing... I have seen & heard them so many times but 'never' does it get boring!

Only saw a quick flash of the Spifire so this may have been a later Mk with Griffon. Witch sounds like heaven 'gargling' but...cannot match the growl from a PV-12 Merlin!!

I wonder if those were the same two planes I saw earlier in High Wycombe? They both buzzed over the town pulling some fairly steep turns and waggling their wings, giving me a spectacular show as I've got a nice view over the valley. I have to shamefully admit that I can never tell whether I'm looking at a Spitfire or a Hurricane though...

If it were the same two (about 12:45) the Spitfire was a PRXIX.

Seems quite a weekend for old plane spotting, the Lancaster flew directly over my house yesterday, very low and rumbling away nicely!

Hurricane has 'square'(ish) wingtips, Spitfire has pointy(er) ones smile

If it was a PR.XIX then the engine was a Griffon, not a Merlin.

Apparently the RAF don't low fly jets too frequently, but the BBMF are exempt because "nobody seems to mind low flying Merlins".

Quote from Smithy, OC BBMF.
;o)

Carry on, I say. biggrin

Apparently their official altitude as they came over the Abbey was 1,000 ft, although they seemed much lower than that, epecially on the second pass.

Could be deceptive though, altitude is notoriously difficult to estimate from ground level.

Spine tingling, I think it's the first time I've seen a Spitfire in flight.

I was just confirming it for you.

I prefer the sound of the Griffon to a Merlin, personally.

I heard a quote from a display pilot that, from the cockpit, a Merlin at full power sounded as though it was about to explode, and a Griffon sounded like it already had.
