My son expressed an interest in warhammer/games workshop games a while ago...

I eventually relented and took him to get a "starter kit" yesterday, first shock... £105!!!!! for kit, paint and a couple of extra brushes...

Been sat with the young-un glueing and painting.. even quite chuffed with my efforts at painting them, certainly better than my efforts 20+ years ago when I used to play with them.

just finished another showed my son, he's pleased... and ran to show my girlfriend...... bless her, she humoured me and everything... I think she's upstairs packing a bag....

anyone else got kids (or brave enough to admit they're still at it as adults) into this stuff...

Never played the games, but used to be fascinated with the little lead figures. Some great ones. My favourite was one who had a missing leg, and used his arm as a leg. The other arm held a huge club. Great stuff.

Ditto. Couldn't paint for beans though.

I never painted them. Couldn;t be arsed. I always thought they looked better in their naked lead.

I suppose it's one way to ensure your son never gets corrupted by those gooey members of the opposite sex! rofl

Oh I gave it a good go, but beyond flat colours and decals I was useless.

I had some once upon a time, I had elves, one of my mates had human soldier things and the other had some kind of evil army, me and the evil guy used to team up to beat the other guy as he had more figures, he used to get in the huff as elves and evil guys werent really allowed to team up and would go home in a massive strop every time. At which point my mate and I would get the snes fired up and play fifa, which was far more fun.

I admit I've been half tempted to get the paints back out and paint a few to pass the time in the evenings... I've also just bought the Bloodbowl computer game so I'm half tempted to paint a Bloodbowl team. (shockingly I'm single)

Futuristic models, Warhammer (without the 40k) is set in the Lord of the Rings universe.

Yes the figures aren't cheap, but GW make a HUGE amount of cash on their paints, brushes and so on. I can't believe the stupid money they charge for "green stuff" putty that you can get elsewhere in a slightly different form for a fraction of the price. There are loads of miniature sculptors and online stores, but aren't always the easiest to find, so here are some interesting links for miniature painters:

I keep meaning to get a nice figure out and paint it. Got loads kicking around from when I played (both 40k and fantasy), and I still have paints due to making/painting car and robot models now. Wonder how well I could manage without the rushed feeling hanging over me (I still have a whole army to paint! hurry up!)
