Hi

My SEAC has headlight washer's, whilst it was an optional extra why did TVR bother?

I am slowly working through my car checking things and doing what's needed to sort the whole car. The latest job is my headlight washer, why have them on such a car. It doesn't make sense to me! The headlights for most of there time are down so they don't get dirty, and one of the main reason's for a SEAC was it's weight saving. So why fit an extra water tank, pipping, relays and the washer jets etc!

The problem apart from the weight (Small as it maybe) is mine don't work, The pump appears to be the problem, so I have to source a new one (It's not a normal washer pump)
The other problem is the water tank is higher than the washer jets, so the water comes out of the jets with out the pump working. So I am getting water along the front of the car whilst I am driving. Now if my pump was OK would it still do this? Does anybody have headlight washers on there "Wedge", if you do, do you have the same problems!

A simple fix is not to fill the water tank, but I like all things to work if they are fitted so any advice would be of great help!

I down have them in my SEAC must have been an upgrade option.
If you repace the pump the leaking should stop but if it were in my car i would remove the system all togeather, saving weight and less hassel..

A picture of the pump would help identify it and also help with the syphon problem.smile

Hi

As promised pics of the headlight washer's and the troublesome pump!

This was a Dealer fitted option on the 400SE and 450SE for £200 and for some reason on my SEAC!
Now to identify the pump, I think it must be from a Ford as the bottle is a Ford item!
Any ideas please!

Andy - you can fix the siphoning problem by making the output hose from the pump rise up as high as the water level in the tank. You might be able to do this with a couple of tie wraps, or a longer/stiffer bit of hose, or some copper tube hidden inside it.

Pump looks like a Metro, some just push into the bottle and some had a nylon nut that you put on inside the bottle and tightened up to hold it in place,if it`s just a push fit then an up to mid nineties vauxhall one will do.This link may help http://www.auto-bar.co.uk/Application_Charts.htmlsmile

Hi

Well what can I say! The headlight washer problem is sorted.

How is well unbelievable, (Or is it) see pic below.

In the top of the pic you can see a wire going round the heater valve. This wire has two spade ends which are not conected to anything.(More about them later)
Now since I have owned this car (Four weeks) I have come across a lot of things which didn't make sense and this was one of them!
The headlight washer pump had two wires going to it, but the pump didn't work!
Today I moved the above mentioned cable (In pic) and found the spad ends fell straight to the end of the pump! Me being me I removed the old wires and fitted these two. Guess what the pump now works as it should!
Very strange why fit wires to the pump which are not fitted to the pumps switch and disconect the ones which are? confused
Now were do these now disconnected wire's go to?

Now with my luck if I put water in the fuel tank will it turn to petrol? wink
