Hello All,

I've just helped my girfriend purchase a 1999 Ford Puma 1.7 with 43,000 miles on it for £1200. This was a great example in silver, one owner from new, fsh and most importantly no rust on the rear arches.

There is one small problem though, I keep taking the keys for a drive and she's getting quite annoyed now! It is a fantastic car, and I love driving it. The gear box has a direct shift to it and the power steering is perfectly weighted. One of my friends had a ford racing puma a while back and we gave him quite a bit of stick for spending so much on a puma, but I can understand the point of it all now.

Also, £37 for a fill up also put a smile on my face.

biggrin

You won't get much more than 200 miles out of a tank on local runs though!

Really I get like between 350-370 miles per tank of normal driving ? 1.7 Puma X reg Lux pack.
If you cain it all the time this drop to around 300 miles a tank but never as low as 200.

I can easily return between 40 - 45mpg, a few PumaPeolpe Members have got 400 + per tank. But I suspend this is getting in hypermiling etc.

If yours is only getting around 200 I'd get it serviced quick and or get the cyclinder walls inspected, could be Nikisil liner issues!

Certainly hope not! It's serviced to schedule and has always done the same MPG. Had a top end rebuild due to cambelt failure by a Puma specialist earlier in the year and he didn't notice any Nikasil problems.

If I'm not mistaken problems were down to high sulphur content which hasn't been the case for a long while.

It's mostly driven in traffic and air con on permanently - have got 300 or so out of it with longer runs, but it's a thirsty car round town using the throttle!

My gf doesn't get great mpg from hers but is great to drive. Small fuel tank though so seems like you're filling up a lot.

Puma's are really great little cars, ive had a standard 1.7 in the past and have just brought a Racing Puma which really is amazing.

Cant recommend these FRP's enough, starting from £4k they are a bargin and only going to make money in the long run as theres only about 350 still in existance!

They are great, i've had mine about a month now. £1200 sounds like a bargain! Keep an eye on those arches though, i'm sure the rust will creep up on you! I paid £1350 for mine, many more miles (90,000) its a 98, FSH, 1 owner from new but it did have a full service, cambelt, fanbelt, waterpump, 12 months MOT and a 3 months warrenty. Its had the rusty bits treated, but it is starting to creep back in now. I thought I had a good deal but looking at how much you paid, maybe not so much!

Love these.

Have two at home.

A 00 1.4 that Ill be using for a first car, and my Dad picked up a 98 1.7 for €180! Slight rust on arches and cuts out at low revs but otherwise perfect. Real bargain.

Nope, kept it in the end, spent the engagement ring fund on the FRP (Mrs is not happy but still with me!)
