In my box of bits I was lucky to get a nice polished oil catch tank.

Anybody know what it's for and where it should be fitted with relation to engine/oil level and which pipes it should be connected to?

Cheers,

Steve.

Goes in the breather line between the breather valve thingie and the air filter. One of my projects is to fab one, but I need to figure out where to put it first. It is kinda tight in there.

How about directly underneath your air box? Another idea for those who want to install a reciculating dump valve is to do away with the breather pipe to the air box and put it into a catch tank. You then a a connection for your dump valve pipe into the air box.

I've just fitted one to my Esprit (1992 SE) and will be doing a complete guide on LEW in the next week or so.

Hoping to catch all that oil mist that's been returning into the induction system. Pipes where very oily!

Coming Soon!

Hey Kato,
How's about a hint: Where did you mount the thing? This is about the tightest engine compartment I have ever experienced.

I mounted one to the bottom edge of the passenger side panel just under the airbox, fairly close to the firewall and radiator crossover pipe The bottom of the canister sits just above the frame rail, so I had to cut off an unused stud sticking up from the frame rail. Here's a photo:

It's a bit inconvenient, as currently I have to remove the airbox and the catch can to drain it, but it certainly seems to be catching some oil. I plan to add a remote drain pipe.

Looks nice, Sanj. Nice clean engine too. I live on 1/2 mile of dirt road.

If you run a drain tube to a windshield washer pump then to a little nozzle at the back, with a switch on the dash labeled "Oil Slick," it would work out pretty well for those times when an '82 Chebby is right on your tail at 75MPH.

Space isn't really an issue - the original engine has been replaced by a V8 Rover lump, it won't fit under the cover so the whole boot has been pretty much dedicated to it!
This is why I am confused as where bits should go as it is not obvious - I think the catch tank could fit in the space behind the passenger side rear window. I assume this wont't be too high - it will be higher than the rocker cover.

Hi that looks great, but was wondering if you still have easy access to changing the oil filter down there? I mean its bad enough getting to it as it is.

Did you just leave the outlet of the catch can disconnected, or is it plumbed somewhere? I'd worry about oil mist venting from the tank.

Sanj,

The Mocal oil catch tank as a clever "breathable top" . It vents to air but catches all the oil.
