More backdoor cut backs!

Looking on the NHS website....

£190 health in Pregnancy grant stops for all women who are 25 weeks and under on 1st Jan next year - also the child trust fund goes down from £250 to £50.

You don't appear to hear about many of these without going and digging around for the information.

Perhaps we can keep this thread to catalogue imminent changes.

Others I'm aware of are the OAP winter fuel allowance is reducing/going, OAP bus passes are going.

Any more?

I'd wager than any health in pregnancy grant doesnt get spent for the intended purpose. No great loss there.

The winter fuel money goes to one of the most vulnerable groups so I am sure the money would be spent on food and the heating would remain off. This needs to be fixed, just handing out a few quid isnt solving anything hence it is now being withdrawn.

Just sack half the public sector employees. No one would notice and we would save a fortune.

You can have some of mine...

hehe

I've not heard that either, in fact I thought they'd ruled out changing the heating allowance.

Or if you can't afford to have kids, then don't have them. I hope they reverse all the other stupid bribes/handouts that Labour created.

It is rumoured not confirmed.

Changes mooted include raising the age at which it becomes payable. It does seem strange that you can qualify for free bus travel 5 years before the state retirement age.

yes

Unemployment benefit should be paid for no longer than 6 months IMHO. And no switching to incapacity benefit!

The workshy seem to think that not working for money is a lifestyle choice. Not on IMO!

If someone can't get a job, any job in 6 months then there is clearly something wrong!

That's perhaps a bit of a sweeping statement.

Some people face redundancy and then find getting another job difficult when pregnant.

Should they be forced to have terminations?

Or rather than giving handouts to the feckless cretins in sinkhole council estates, perhaps reduce income tax payments for those that have children (as the only form of "benefit") so that we're encouraging the right people to breed ie those who bother to work.

Where the system is screwed up is that anyone can have upto 6 cycles of infertility treatment on the state (depending on your postcode).

It costs £5k a go privately.

Why not means test them?

If the man has a child from a 1st marriage, no NHS treatment is funded. I guess they can share the child from the 1st marriage with the 2nd wife?

Ah good old cutbacks, to help the country get back on its feet and out of this recession. Why then, have the government agreed to give another £70million to Pakistan?

Where is that the case? Last time I looked into it (it's a long story) where we lived at the time the PCT would fund one cycle of treatment but the couple had to fund their own drugs, in the next door PCT to the east they would funded for the whole 1st cycle, to the west no funding at all. Other PCT's would fund up to the second cycle, I've never heard of anyone having 6 cycles funded?

Mind you, last time I looked at this sort of thing it was only £2400 to £2700 per cycle, so things may well have moved on.

Did you not realise this thread wouldn't be used for the purpose you suggested?
