what car for my son

as the title says.
my dad is wiling to interest free finance a new car for my son up to 12k.
could you guys give us some options.
he is 23 and been driving for 5 years, but has no no claims bonus, but has had no accidents either.
so the insurance has to be considered.
i would just like some suggestions really.

it does not have to be finance, just my old man thinks that if ie: fords are not getting his money all at once he has had a result.
