Refuses to pot the last black to complete a 147 break as there's only a £4k prize for highest break and no prize for a maximum break.

He's made it known he's bored of the sport so loves to cause a fuss.

Sounds like a right prick. All the people who pay his wages and watch him are entitled to him doing his best when playing. 147's are something the crowd want to see professionals do.

He's teetering on the edge of petulance, presumably because he's bored.

As with most things Ronnie does or comes out with, in it's basic form he has a point. £4k for a maximum is not a lot. Whilst players knock them in more than they did 30 years ago, they're not exactly racking them up in every tournament.

But to refuse to pot the black at the end of a break like that is pretty disrespectful to the crowd who've paid to come and watch you play at your best.

Ronnie needs to learn to find ways of taking his frustration out on people who run the tournaments and the game itself, rather than on the fans who see him play.

I often ask myself this question, and always come back to the same answer: How would my Dad being sent to prison for murder when I was a child affect my personality? Feck knows.

One on level seeing a player NOT complete a 147 like that, for whatever reason, is arguably as entertaining as seeing it's completion. It's never been done before! Ronnie has given so much joy to so many snooker fans over the years, I don't think he can be criticised for that. youtube his fastest maximum again if you're in any doubt.

It's only about ten minutes work for him though isn't it.

I think he's amusing. He dares to be different. He didn't harm anybody, just made a point which we are all talking about.

Snooker is just that little bit less boring while he's around.

The world needs characters or it becomes grey, dull and bordering on shyte.

The argument could be that the fans deserved to see a 147 break (which they did in the end, anyway). On the other hand, I'd have loved to have been there if he didn't complete it - so I could say "I was there". It's entertainment either way, probably more entertaining than a straight, no messing 147.

That's not the point.

It's ten minutes work that very, very people in the world could even hope to accomplish and every fan wants to see.

Like a hole in one in Golf, or a 9 dart finish in darts, there should be a decent prize on offer.

147s happen more nowadays so maybe £50k (for example) in a smaller tournament is too high but £4k is low.

I was at an exhibition match a few years back with Steve Davis and Jimmy White.

Steve made a 147 in the second frame, potting the final black off it's spot from the white being around the yellow/brown spot.

You're on the edge of your seat from when you realise the 147 is on. By the time you get to the colours, you're willing every ball in because it's something you want to see and something which few people get to see live.

If Davis had refused to pot that last black because he wasn't being paid enough I think there'd have been a riot. I certainly wouldn't have found it more entertaining than if he'd have completed it....

With regard to making maximums inhis sleep that was 'only' his tenth.

He's obviously making a point, one which I don't enitrely agree with.

This is so typical, you get some many people complaining about their being no characters in sport anymore, and as soon as somebody does something a little bit different that gets criticized as well. They can't win!

erm, where do I say there's no characters in the sport of snooker and where do I criticise him?

FWIW I enjoy snooker and will watch it on TV regardless of who's playing - it's an awesome sport

He has an erratic temperament for sure, probably from a mixture of nature and nurture. He also enjoys creating a show for the cameras, like his hero Alex Higgins. So we see a mixture of the true Ronnie and a persona he likes to put on to spice up a sport dominated by dour clones. The bottom line is he's probably the best talent the sport has ever seen, and he entertains. Good for him. Bring back the days of watching players taking a sip of beer and a drag on a cigarette before coming to the table I say.

I think he should have proposed a bet, "Double the £4k and I'll double the black in".

He's a cock and I wish to god he would fk off from the game. Some say snooker would be boring without him - i for one turn his games over when he comes on. He barely shows respect, takes the piss and his supporters are the same when his oppenent are at the tbl - especially if its Hendry. I've heard a couple of statements from him about why he did what he did - he's a multi millionaire for fk sake. On one hand he said in on interview 147's are special and deserve a special prize - either in the same interview or another,i can't remember, he said he knocks them in all the time. In that case are they really that special to you Ron?

A spoilt bellend - talented I grant you.

He is hands down the most naturally talented player to ever play and does make the sport that bit more exciting but when you see him in interviews he can be so rude sometimes. NO need for it, that doesn't impress me. Also he constantly moans about how he is playing crap even though he is still wiping the floor with his opponents. The fella is constantly moaning.....awww poor Ronnie! the fella is a see you next tuesday!

I enjoy watching Ronnie, you never know what he is going to do next. He is a very moody character, a proper Jekyll and Hyde. He can be awesomely brilliant or just cant be bothered and become very mischevous.
