As title states, I'm struggling to find any decent hotels in the Cheltenham area, especially without knowing what the area is like too well.

I've tried booking a room with The George Hotel, but they have been fully booked since last week, which is annoying as it looks very nice.

Would anyone happen to know of any nice hotels either in or around Cheltenham, or possibly further out? Budget isn't a major issue, and have been looking for anything in the region of £125+ pn.

I'll leave it in the capable hands of the masses while I continue my search as well!

What kind of place are you after? We stayed in a very nice B+B on the common near Stroud... here is a laterooms link.

It's a lovely country pub with excellent food, the rooms are very modern and clean, Moulton Brown toiletries etc. Tripadvisor has mixed reviews it seems, but we liked it and its a lovely setting.

If budget really not an issue the Cotswold House in Chipping Campden is lovely.

The type of hotel isn't really too much of an issue. I've currently been looking at more modern hotels, but it doesn't have to be. I'm just trying to find something that is a little bit special and is in a nice area.

Chose the Cotswolds as it's slap bang in between where my gf is based during the week and where I am. So really, am looking in the area between Shrewsbury and Frimley. That pub looks very nice actually, and I can see what you mean by the reviews but I think the vast majority of places have mixed opinions like that.

If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd welcome them!

If you want one in town then The Queens has always been considered the best (I have no idea if that it still deserves its reputation) whilst out of town, The Greenaway at Shurdington / Badgeworth is probably the best hotel in the area. Or so I'm told.

Edit: Although now I re-read your OP perhaps this isn't what you're looking for.

Yeah it looks like people whining about slow restaurant service at Sunday lunchtimes - its a popular weekend pub. The rooms are very nice.

I've always favoured Kandinsky in Cheltenham but it is currently nearing completion of refurbishment.

Broadway and Chipping Campden are both nice places with a couple of good country hotels in each. Rurally located Buckland Manor and Dormy House seem to get the best recent reviews.

Queens is very tired.

Hotel Du Vin is excellent - often go for lunch there, it is in the centre.

Hotel on the park - heard very good things about it but not been http://www.thehoteluk.co.uk/

Maximum 20mins out of Cheltenham:

Cowley Manor - seriously cool hotel with great spa and great Cotswold pub near it (Green Dragon) - http://www.cowleymanor.com/

Barnsley House - http://www.barnsleyhouse.com/

Calcot Manor, maybe a bit far out but amazing spa - http://www.calcotmanor.co.uk/

If you're up into that league, I would also recommend Whateley Manor. More Wiltshire than Cheltenham but very, very nice.

Stay here: http://www.burford-house.co.uk/ in either the Southrop or Sherborne suites.

You can thank me later.

I've actually just been looking at that one, and must say, those suites look very nice and in the right kind of price bracket too. The only issue with quite a few of these places is that they tend to want 2 nights stay minimum.

With regards to the other suggestions, all very good ones, a few perhaps a little bit on the pricey side, but i'm not ruling out just yet.

I don't mind expanding the area either. Anything with is roughly a half way point between Shrewsbury and Frimley is fine. The closer to Shrewsbury the better really as saves her driving so far.

biggrin I can't book 2 nights as she has to be back in Shawbury on the Sunday evening. Am looking to get a room this Saturday, 25th.

And yes, I know, I know, 'bit late notice' and all, but I only found this weekend to be a possibility yesterday, hence my frantic search!

Can't you book Friday AND Saturday?

Try these two also (although I've only dined in them) http://www.theswanswinbrook.co.uk/accommodation.ht... and http://www.thekingsheadinn.net/

As it's last minute you may be able to get a Saturday only if they are empty.

edited for crap linkage!
