I see he's employed the diesel excuse. I don't think it's going to work for him though. It does sound like simple driver error leads to tragic crash to me. (that's ignoring the "he looked a bit fast going around the roundabout" witness)

I have hit diesel in my car and hit the kerb - all of a sudden you have no steering. The Saab that arrived at the corner 30 seconds earlier went backwards through a hedge.

Only so long as there's plenty of other vehicles which have crashed too.

Just yesterday I happened to be reading an old copy of Hello , which featured a singer called Darius Campbell who is minted after coming third in Pop Idol 2002 , describing the car crash in Spain in which the Porsche he was a passenger in hit diesel on a bend on a motorway.

Strange thing was, they didn't hit the pile of cars that hadn't already crashed after having gone through the diesel, and in all the time they were at the roadside waiting for the emergency services nobody else crashed on the 'diesel' either.

I have had a couple of near misses through oil/grease on the road but I have a lot more due to making mistakes.

After 25 years of owning and driving, my TVR was badly damaged in a RTA because of Diesal on the road, thankfully no people injured though.
It does happen.

I've only ever hit diesel once, pulling left out of a T-junction in France. Very scary as the car just felt like it was on sheet ice and not something I'd liked to have done at speed.
There does however, seem to be a lot of diesel on the roads if most excuses are anything to go by, thoguh strange how no other cars seem to hit the same patch.

Been there, done that, and in a TVR too. Diesel really is nasty stuff and the only thing that saved my car from significant damage was the fact that all the "road furniture" had been recently demolished by other vehicles that had had the same accident a few hours previously. They had cleared away the wreckage, but not the diesel!

The advantage of the bike is that you get to smell it as a warning, plus generally you can spot it easier.
Not fun at all on a bike though.

In my experience, bumps in the road become a factor with anything that weighs no more than two fag packets and has the torque to move 2.5 tonne SUVs with some sort of audacity. Heck, even a Lotus Evora - the most beautifully riding sports car bar none and one which doesn't exactly fulfill either of the above requirements - will take no prisoners when driven with no regard for physics.
