Now, Elmer, you call it “the” speed limit. Which speed limit do you mean? The entirely sensible national speed limit that was invented by the government on advice from people like the police, the Road Traffic Laboratory and others who knew what they were talking about, or those silly, inappropriate speed limits put in place by amateurish local authorities anxious to be seen doing something about road safety without spending any money? - GOS ......

He makes the point of people not paying enough attention to the road because they are watching there speedo too much.
Ive wondered about that as well, in both my cars its not a problem as you get used to the noise , and gearing etc at 30. however I recently bought a motorbike again and have to look at the speedo more than I would like. I'll get used to it again soon enough so it wont be a problem.
But there must be many people out there who never get attuned to a car for one reason or another and just watch the speedo for an inappropriate time, possibly like the bloke I saw cross over at a crossroads this morning without even slowing down.

With a bit of music on you cannot hear the engine at low revs in mine. 30 in 5th sounds like 40in 5th. He makes the point of people not paying enough attention to the road because they are watching there speedo too much.
