Latest road fatality figures for Leicestershire and Rutland

just found this on my local Police webby

www.leics.police.uk/safety_roadsafety.asp

check the graph out, so if all these new safety cameras are so damn effective (at saving lives i mean, not raising cash) then how come 2 out of the 3 months this year has seen at least a 3 fold increase in fatalities over last year?

According to West Yorkshires figures deaths are down by 30%. I don't get their maths. IF the figures are correct the figure is down 12 from 115 to 102. I make that 12.12%. I have posted a request for an explanation.

Loosers.. I just looked at the whole article.. and the quote is:

"In 2002, there was a 20% decrease in road fatalities from the previous year, which was a 10-year high. Now in 2003, we witness an additional 11% decrease, which means that since 2002, fatal accidents in West Yorkshire have fallen by more than 30%.”

so the headline:

"Fatalities drop by 30% since 2002"

Should read "Fatalities drop by 28.75% since 2001 (as you can't cumultaively add the %'s together ), but 2001 was a 10 year high, so statistically we're not doing that well.."

The trouble is these scamera partnerships will manipulate the data to paint a picture they want to show. If the true data shows that they are completely ineffective as a safety measure, so what? lets say 30% reduction anyway! Regardless it's a good earner!

And will no doubt be paraded on the Look North program as an example of how well they are doing. Wonder where the figures for previous years are??

i just sent our local safety camera team an email asking for an explaination why it says safety cameras reduce road deaths by 56% on their website. when those figures show a 150% increase in road deaths so far this year compared to last year.
