Hi,

Looking to renew my cam and followers as part of my engine refurb. Cam actually doesnt look too bad but its going in the bin, rather than back in the car.

Would anyone know where I could find the cam specification info relating to the ID stamping off the back of the cam? (Hope that makes sense)

Cheers

Marty

It should be stamped/engraved on either shoulder of the rear/front bearing.

The only stamp marks are on the rear face as shown.

I have read that the 435 is a stock 500 cam. Sorry can't help with spec.

It's a TVR spec cam, so I guess you can only get it through Dom or one of his dealers if that's what you mean.

435 is as said the std cam for 5 ltr, 4.5 and 4.3 i think... TVR power now does a 885 replacement for this unless you want to go a bit more redical??
I have the 885 in my car... it takes a tad from the bottom end of the 435 (you may be not notice it) but gives better mid range and a bit more top...
I like it as it's a good allrounder..

Standard cam for the 4.3 was a 214 - confirmed by TVR Power and the cam in my engine.

I thought the 435 was more commonly paired with the BV heads? ie all 500's but a pic'n'mix on others.

The spec sheet I got from TVR Power (about 12 years ago) shows the 214 as standard for the 4.3 and the 4.3BV.

TVR fitted well over 100 different types of cams to RV8s. That's a lot more than the different cc or BV variations.

I chose my words very carefully, maybe the subtlety was wasted wink 'commonly' doesn't rule out 'specific' exceptions - which may be frequent in TVR circles hehe

Just to clarify, when I referred to the TVR Power spec sheet, it was not specifically for my engine, but for the 4.3 and 4.3BV variants of the RV8 which they built. I could only accept that in good faith, and it was eventually backed up by the cam in my own engine.

My 4.3 is due a cam change (suspect worn lobes as power dropping off at top end and has 60K miles on it)
I expect it will most likely have Kent 214 in it from the factory.

So I'm trying to work out which cam to put in it, between:

1. Power's 885 - excellent price and my favourite at moment - although I can't find any specs on it. Can anyone offer advice on this or its characteristics versus the 214 I have in the car?

2. Kent 218 - a little softer than the 214 but I hear a good cam. Costs a little more than the 885.

3. Stealth - all say good - but costs significantly more and I'm not sure I can jutify the cost against the gain?

Be careful comparing prices, some need followers etc. buying separately others are inclusive kits.

Some of the 4.3's just had std RV8 fibre cam sprockets which will certainly need replacing along with chain, so you may want something a bit better whilst you're at it?

If you like to tinker, mechanical cams yield good gains for an occasional bit of extra work.

Replacing the tming set as the duplex chain has obviously stretched. Sort of defeats the object of having a vernier pulley

The next photo explains why I'm having to remove the engine from its natural environment.
