I've only got a single cold supply so need to split into two for a washing machine. A Y piece wont work as it's got a female input connection and the inlet hose supplyig it also has a female:

Am I missing something obvious?

Screwfix also do the adaptor

The female end goes on the cold water feed, this should have an isolating tap with a male thread. Then use two hoses from the Y to the hot and cold input on your washing machine.

Hot feed was only used on older machines for the higher temperature washes.

My AEG machine's 9 years old and only has a cold feed on it.

And if you split the feed you won't have a hot and cold feed - just two cold's!

Why?

Why oh why?

I have lots of nice cheap hot water heated by either a logburning stove or oil then why the feck can't i use it for washing my clothes.

No i must use expensive elctricity

From a tree hugger point of view surely it is better to use hot water that has come from a renewable source instead of heating it by electricty that has come from a power station

I'm not a bready i'm a tight arse

Wood is free

electricty ain't

If I was that bothered i would install a cheapo temp controlled shower to feed the water to the washing machine.

I wonder if my dishwasher would throw a wobbely if i connected it to the hot water feed

Also it comes down to the lovely eco argument of chuck your washing machine in the bin and replace it with this brand new one which is 3% more effiecent.

Sorted - with a 3/4" to 3/4" male adaptor from my local plumbing shop.

The machine has two inputs and both need to be fed, even if just with old water.
