Looking for Maserati Granturismo - any comments on this car?
Discussion
Hello - am hoping to soon be a Masser owner and have seen this car at a local garage - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2009625.htm
does anyone know it (was apparently in Scotland then Esher, it's only done 7K which is good and seems to have great spec. Would anyone comment on the price etc or offer any advice about if its a good buy (seems a bit pricey) or not please? many thanks !

Looks nice, price wise tbh I'm not sure sure what's good or bad? I bought a '57 4.2 in Feb of this year for £56k but it had 11,000 miles on it - how much does every mile effect the resale price?
I wouldn't trust the spec that's listed on the ad either. For example:
The 20" Bird Cage alloys are standard not an additional cost extra.
Park distance control is only on the rear on the 4.2, the S has them front and rear if ordered - I can't see any sensors in the picture.
The Bose stereo will have a "Juke Box" hard drive, not a 6 disc changer - it has a single disc slot on the head unit which can be seen in pic 9.
Also a Bose system will have big sub mounted in the parcel shelf, which I can't see in pic 5, but in fairness it's not the best pic for spotting it.
When you drive it, build up speed and firmly press the brake pedal three times in quick succession, you will find that it runs out of servo assistance and you will not be able to brake hard enough to get the ABS to kick in! I discovered this during some spirited driving, it concerned me so much that I returned the car. The S version does not suffer from this, so I bought a new GT-S MC Shift instead.
Hope this helps,
Dan

Great car but as said above close to "S" money, which would be my choice. I would not worry too much if they are not a main dealer as car will come with warranty and any problems can be resolved at your local dealer, but plenty of others around so no need to rush into this one unless it is absolutely right.

Thanks for all your comments, have to admit I'd feel happier if they were a main dealer. Am fairly sure all the options are there, but will check again !
Bramley are one of the best and safest garages to buy from, way better than most Mazza dealers.Buy with confidence, however offer them a silly low price to start.

Mark.

£60k is a lot of money for a 2007/8 4.2 but then again it is low mileage and miles kill Maserati values.
Bear in mind that the Maserati warranty will run out early next year and no third party warranty will be as good as a Maserati new/used one.
There are not many S (4.7) cars around as they have only been out a year and a half versus three years for the 4.2. If you are going to pay £10k more for an S then why not pay another £10k for a new one - discounts on new physical stock are higher than you think?

I've passed on the one in Bramley - they won't negotiate enough & I feel it's over priced. The Lyndhurst people who had almost exactly the same car, but slightly newer, decided yesterday they had posted it on their website with the incorrect price and put it up by 5K....
Needless to say am not going for that one either. No doubt the right one will appear at some point so thanks for your comments & advice.

Don't blame you. There is a shortage of used cars at the moment which explains the high residuals but, personally, I struggle to see why I should pay £60k for a near three year old which I could buy new for £82/83k with a bit of haggling.
As the 4.7 engined cars get more plentiful I expect the 4.2 engined cars to take a bit of a hit, especially as they go out of warranty. Expect them to drop through £50k retail relatively easily over the winter.

I bought my 4.2 just over 12 months ago from the main dealer in London (HR Owen). It is a December 2007 car, so was about 21 months old when I bought it. I had gone to see a silver car, but didn't like the colour and told them I wanted black with cream interior. They found me a car within a week. At the time it had 8,000 miles. It has the 20" birdcage wheels and skyhook, rear sensors but no BOSE. I got it for £62.5k, and they gave me a decent deal on an Audi S4 I put in P/X. On that basis I'd say the Bramley car was definitely overpriced and you were right to walk away.
Try calling James Champion at HR Owen in London (0207 341 6300) and tell him what you want. He may be able to find one for you, and his prices are very realistic.

Lovely cars, I hope you find the right one soon. One thing though..
