I need to fit a cheap and cheerful tap (preferably mixer) for my utility room. Taps I'm looking at online are provided with braided hoses. Are these hoses actually attached to the taps or do I have to fit them? Is it a simple screw-on process? I will be connecting the other end of these hoses onto isolation valves which are thankfully already in place. I know they screw on to them valves no probs. Im just not sure what happens at other end (tap end)

Those that I have seen screw into the body of the tap.

^^^ That

On the continent we tend to use metal flexi-pipes rather than plastic/copper tubes to connect all taps.
I think you'll find taps sold in (p)Ikea have the flexi tubes included too, although they're not always the braided metal type.

The flexible hoses will have a thread at one end which will screw into the tap base.

The other end will either have a nut which will screw onto your iso or a compression fitting which you can attach to a tail sticking out of your iso.

I suggest reading the instructions carefully - with our kitchen mixer tap the hoses had to be done only finger tight (sounds daft, but it doesn't leak!), whereas others I have installed needed a spanner.

Best to get a proper tap with real pipework though. Braided hoses often leak, sometimes burst and allow the tap to move on thin stainless steel sinks.

Wot Ferg said yes

I had a minor flood caused by a flexi-hose failure.
Good job it happened whilst I was at home or it could have been catastrophic.

Debating this myself at the moment. Surely if they are so bad, they wouldn't be the de-facto on the continent? Basically I will need to connect a mixer tap to the water pipes which are currently protruding 3 inches from the wall and capped off with Speedfit caps. I can't solder (well, I don't have the kit) so how OK is standard tap tails and Speedfit connectors / pipe to join it all up?
