taps and braided hoses
Discussion
I need to fit a cheap and cheerful tap (preferably mixer) for my utility room. Taps I'm looking at online are provided with braided hoses. Are these hoses actually attached to the taps or do I have to fit them? Is it a simple screw-on process? I will be connecting the other end of these hoses onto isolation valves which are thankfully already in place. I know they screw on to them valves no probs. Im just not sure what happens at other end (tap end)

Those that I have seen screw into the body of the tap.
^^^ ThatOn the continent we tend to use metal flexi-pipes rather than plastic/copper tubes to connect all taps.
I think you'll find taps sold in (p)Ikea have the flexi tubes included too, although they're not always the braided metal type.

Best to get a proper tap with real pipework though. Braided hoses often leak, sometimes burst and allow the tap to move on thin stainless steel sinks.
Debating this myself at the moment. Surely if they are so bad, they wouldn't be the de-facto on the continent? Basically I will need to connect a mixer tap to the water pipes which are currently protruding 3 inches from the wall and capped off with Speedfit caps. I can't solder (well, I don't have the kit) so how OK is standard tap tails and Speedfit connectors / pipe to join it all up?Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
