No wonder America has no car industry anymore !!!!!!!!!!
Discussion
Who saw on Quest Channel 38 the guys in Detriot trying to build a Mobile Bar
out of an old Chevy, welding with no shields, grinding without googles,
and I just couldnt watch the " carpenter" using a woodsaw as a grinder,
Having just got my first Jap car, Avensis, Id never consider a Yant Tank,
if guys like that build them, Discuss !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, because ALL American cars are built in one factory in Detroit...out of an old Chevy, welding with no shields, grinding without googles,
and I just couldnt watch the " carpenter" using a woodsaw as a grinder,

.... no other car maker has factories or production plants in the USA................
....This program evidently 100% represented a modern automotive production line and assembly techniques.

You've never used a grinder without goggles?
You big Jesse...
Last time I did, I spent some hours in A&E having metal splinters picked out of my eyeball using the sharp end of a syringe needle. Which was as pleasant as it sounds. You big Jesse...

I did almost end up in A&E after using it with a full face mask - a bit of grit bounced off my top, and under the mask and embedded itself in my eye.
After a few minutes, I realised it wasn't going anywhere, so used the end of a cable tie to pick it out (I didn't know where the local A&E was, and my neighbour had gone in for lunch - and I didn't want to disturb him, so I had a go at removing it while I waited. Eventually it worked).

Wheel broke, result, lost both eyes, didnt bother with eye protection, he said "It was only a minutes work". He had worn eye protection all his life at work, and had never sustained an incidents at all, this time, it did.

So because some chaps who work in the car industry build an ornament without proper safety gear, that's the reason why America's car industry is on it's knees?out of an old Chevy, welding with no shields, grinding without googles,

Nothing to do with finance, products, build quality or anything else - it's because they don't wear goggles when grinding.
Obviously.
Their industry still seems far more unionised than ours, which is one of the major causes of its demise. This has always struck me as strange. Having actually lived in the US (unlike some on here who obsess about the place yet never try it), it was always surprising to see the strength of the unions in all sorts of areas, which is quite at odds with the free-market rhetoric.
The blame probably lies more, though, with them being out of step with consumer preferences when petrol prices spiked, and with the lunatic actions of their financing arms.

You see that going on on all those shows, american chopper, american hotrod, detroit city motors even the garage. Every show I have watched on quest with tools involves a level of contempt for safety with tools. I'm surprised it is alowed but in all honesty its probably pretty representative of garages worldwide.

You weren't given it as a gift or as a company car?

The American car industry still exists AFAIK, with US car brands building US cars in US towns and cities, with US manpower.
Now, what happened to volume car production by UK manufacturers again?
