Mind you, 60 mpg isn't bad is it?!
It was actually the new Cooper D which brought me to look at the Mini One D.The new Cooper D does 82MPG, 0-60 in 9.9 seconds and 99 CO2 so free to tax. Cannot afford one of those but the Mini One D looks good, not as fast and not as many MPGs but is does have a Toyota engine and the 6 speed box from the Cooper S instead of the supposed unreliable 5 speed from the early cars.

So, what are you going for then?
Well the Mini One D does 0-60 in 11.9 with MPG combined of 58.9 which over 12k miles would cost £926 in fuelComparitively the Mini Cooper S 2007> does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds with a combined MPG of 48.7 which over 12k miles would cost £1,120
So in real terms as I do not do that many miles per year there is not much cost saving on the diesel so I may go for the Cooper S. Having said that the Ka is still working fine and is paid off.
Won't be until mid next year I wouldn't have thought anyway.
I have owned two Mini One D's. I used them as driving school cars. The best model I had was the Mini One D with the Toyota engine (90bhp model). The Tritec engine was gutless.
I also owned a Mini One petrol, don't buy one the clutch doesn't last 40k miles!!
The Toyota diesel engine gave me excellent mpg and was great in town and for long motorway journeys.
Downside, no boot space (or rear passanger) and they can be quite a firm ride.
Would I buy another Mini One D? YES, if I didn't have a family!

Just to add to the above it was the 1.4 Toyota Diesel and it was a series one Mini.
And I was wrong about the Tritec engine, it wasn't diesel.
The series one mini had two Diesel engines, both Toyota, a 1.4 70bhp and a 1.4 90bhp. These were the two I had experience with. The later 90bhp model is the one to go for.

Many thanks for the reply David. I shall look out for the 90BHP version in that case, I wasn't aware there were two versions.
I was after the diesel as I haave heard horror stories about the original 5 speed gearboxes and clutches on the sereies 1 petrol minis failing. I believe the One D has the 6 speed box and clutch from the cooper s.
If you were using them as driving school cars they must be fairly robust!

If you can dig deep enough I would say go for the new shape, for petrol I will always say go for the older shape but the diesel is so much better in the newer shape. The original one is not the best drive. Its OK had one for a while and think the new one is miles better for motorway and town
