SAGE qualification?

Hello there! I`m a stranger to this corner of the forum so I`m not sure if this is the right section or not, anyway, here goes.
My wife hasn`t worked for around five years due to us having two children. Our youngest is now in pre-school so my wife has started to toy with the idea of going back to work.
She`s a Canadian and before she moved over here (we met in Canada) she was in accounts with an engineering company in Nova Scotia. She`s keen to remain in that field and has started to research doing a SAGE course.
Do any of you guys on here recommend SAGE as a decent qualification? The course she is looking at isn`t exactly cheap and I`m just wondering if the initial financial outlay is worth it......
Her qualifications are all Canadian and of course are not recognised over here.
Over to the PH masses for any advice or experiences!

Afternoon, have spoken to my better half as she's an accountant and although SAGE is widely used, it's not necessarily a qualification. (I believe it's just the software package that a large proportion of firms use.) Her advice is to speak to agencies and find out if recruiting firms are looking for it as a requirement, before forking out for the course.

I am old fashioned Accountant, tell her to enroll on an evening course for one of the technician qualifications, get a job and stop the course, she will be able to do the work, just need to look interested, Sage is one package, if you understand accounts and can use windows you will quickly get used to using any package. Getting a higher level qualification in a specific package where you can do report writing and data base interrogation a different, but a specific qualification to use package would not impress me.

Agreed, even with her Canadian qualifications she should have enough experience regardless to get an accounts assistant/clerks role who may pay for a proper training course. The Sage programs themselves can be picked up by just about anyone with a bit of common sense.If a person is knowledgeable and confident in book-keeping and basic double entry accounts, then they should be able to cope with whatever type of accounting system is in use - whether manual or computerised.
If she wants a recognised accounting/book-keeping qualification, then the Association of Accounting Technicians (ATT) might be worth looking at.
