Im conducting a survey of how many people would suport the construction of a F1 track in Scotland?
So any suggestions would be welcome. I find it shoking that we have such a passion for motor sport in Scotland, Yet All we have to show for it is Knockhill!!.
I was thinking the Highlands would make the most amazing views to the event of a race the only problem would be securing the permision and finace of such a project.

I hope I speak for alot of people on here!
Lets bring F1 To Scotland! and a fantastic track.

agreed! Another track would be so welcome, one track is pretty poor, nay, very poor, especially considering how many sucessful F1/ motorsports scots there have been. does make you wonder!

Never thought i would talk about this again but since you have raised the issue, totally f... embarasing up here, even the lads south off the border hate the draconian out off date track but its on their callander fix to do it, facilities a joke, track itself the same ,location a joke always pissin, 25 yrs ago i said somthing needs done up here like j stewart getting involved with maybe sda to come up with a complete new track, just one,in the rite location, raced bikes and recently the odd car, still the same boring, took the kidz up paid £50 toget in and it pist, the cars were a joke seen them all before, out in 15 mins complete waste off money, that said the ones that race accept this st track because what else do they have, i also think there is a strong enough support up here to make it work for sure, FOR GOD SAKE DONT ASK CLARKSON AND TEAM WHAT THEY THINK, NUKE THE FKN THING I THINK THE BIG PLONKER SAID, FARMER BROON BEEN LAFFIN ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK WITH HIS OLD FIELD GIV IT BAK TO THE COWS I SAY. A proper track in Scotland would be excellent. Silverstone was the next one I ever drove after "ours" and I couldn't get over how vast & smooth it was!

There have been two muted that I can think of in the last 20 years, or so.

One was at Ingleston and was fronted by Jackie Stewart, but the council wouldn't consider it and he walked away.

The other was near Harthill, round the reservoir on the north-side of the M8. Can't remember why that fell through, possibly funding.

This will never happen unless Scotland become an idepenant nation. The Uk already has an F1 circuit.

I agree that KH is out of date.

Wasnt there talk of a motorsports complex being built just off the A75 near Dumfries?? Couple of years ago now I think, definatly remember something about an F1 standard circuit but with several alternative configs.

TBH I dont think it will get anywhere, but you never know.

Scotland had its own Grand Prix track, what about Charterhall and Winfield near Duns and Kelso, many a famous world class racing driver competed there. If you look hard enough you can still see the original starting grid at Charterhall the likes of Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Mike Hawthorn started from.

had the pleasure of hammering down what was left of the home straight a few years back in a Lotus XI for a promotional video to try and drum up a bit of support for a possible resurrection of the circuit, brought tears to my eyes.

In the days when an old airfield would do we had Charterhall and lets not forget Crimond, however these days a new track is a multi million pound exercise we simply do not have the funding or indeed the head of population to support such a track. Look how Silverstone has struggled to get the funding and support, the south east of englandshire has 10 times the population of the whole of Scotland and a lot more of the personal wealth. Lets not forget that to get quality motorsport you need the drivers/owners to be spending much more on their motorsport and again in most cases that money is just not there. The few who have the funding just go south to race because they get the classes and grids they want, since thats where the money is. Sad, but it just comes down to population size and economics.

THe highlands might be a bit far off and youll get the tree huggers making there way across from protesting about the windfarms to give everyone agro.

Knockhill is a decent little circuit, but scotland does need one more at least. With Crofts dimise looming over its head the next track for most in various championships along with SMRC stuff will be Oulton.

For it to work and be effective i would have thought the central belt would be a shout, there is a little airfield kirknewton just south of Edinburgh, places like these would make great club circuits maybe not F1 stuff but the funding for that would be colosal.

Always thought east fortune and the kart track on the way should amalgamate and form a motorsports centre!

I agree a 2nd track up to international standard is needed in scotland, the gatehouse of fleet proposal looked good on paper but it was clear they never had the money, the scottish government will never put their hands in their pockets so i cant see it happening

east fortune needs too much investment, there isnt the mains electric needed there for starters plus the whole track needs relaid along with a pit lane and runoffs, you would basically be starting from scratch

Unlike a lot on here I am not going to say anything bad about Knockhill as Derek and the team have worked well and as a club circuit it is one of the best in the uk, they have spent the profits on developing the facility and are continuing to do so, suffice to say the place will look a lot different come april 2011. plus as a drivers track it cant be beaten, okay the gt cars might not like it but for tintops it is one of the best

Glasgow street circuit?

190mph along the clydeside expressway into the city centre and back out again.

Lap times might be increased by the traffic on the Kingston Bridge though.

hehe

Lol they can't even finish the roads let alone budget billions for a race track. Also, they're more interested in making multi-millions pound drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres!!!! ARGH!!!!!

Forrestburn, near Shotts, where the hillclimb track is.

Lack of funding i believe, as planning permission was granted.

Shame, would have been awesome. And just along the road from me.
Thanks for sharing. What a shame!

Seems like you have been f1'ing on the roads Mark from your last thread you started!
