... One step back! Darn-it!

Guys has anyone had problems with pedal travel vs Slave?

I filled up the clutch line tonite and once bled.. I gently pushed the pedal - couldnt budge it!

Pressed a bit harder...solid

Pressed even harder, and it moved, and moved and...SPLODGE! the slave spit out the seal and retaining ring at the front of the unit - DAYAM!

As there is no Clutch Pedal adjustable Stop, I assume the only way is to screw in the shaft and I now have ..all the way, but I am not convinced!

How have you guys sorted this?

I didn't build my car but it has a servo on the clutch and you can't depress the clutch unless the engine is running. Like yours, it is solid. Have you fitted a servo?

My first thought is that the clutch release arm/mechanism is not assembled correctly and jammed solid.

The normal clutch is heavy but not enough to burst a slave seal.

Whada Dumkoff! ...how embarrassing! redface

These new-fangled, modern slaves work differently to my day - of course!

There is a spring behind the piston thus giving tension to the thrust shaft to stop rattling....and (I know, I know), that means that the piston and shaft is at it's fullest extension at rest!...Innit!

coffee So the shaft is way too short and only snugly touches the fork dimple when in position...and thus any attempt to press the pedal will obviously blow the seal...Dhoooo....getmecoat

So much for starting fiddling after work when you are already knackered!

Well, all this means I have to hunt down either a longer derivative, or get the shaft re-engineered to be adjustable or summat? Trouble is that these slaves don't have circlips like the old ones did, they have a serrated edged spring-washer that digs into the sides of the body to retain the seals and spring so would be a bug@@@@r. to get out (unless I do the same trick with the pedal of course - but the thought of brake fluid splattering around my garage is not good)

Any ideas?

At rest shaft length from face to dimple 70mm. I have no idea what the extended lenght should be and I canpt put enough pressure on the clutch fork to find out. Anyone?

Just had a look at the slave again...

The Slave plunger shaft is 70mm fully extended from the tip to the body-face - By manually compressing the slave there looks to be around 30mm travel to fully compressed, with 5mm before it makes contact with the internal piston inside! so that says I need 30mm or 25mm extra length????

The trans is a G95-50 turbo box with a special adaptor I found on the net to convert the slave mounts to use a GT2 std slave (the turbo one is a multi-ported and hugely expensive monolith designed for connecting to the steering pump).

Well that is good news !! Sounds like a pretty simple fix - engine can stay in !

Have a plunger extension turned up.
Same diameter as existing at the slave end.
Larger diameter behind that which can be drilled to take the existing shaft.

Our friends at Autobionics have now produced one for me. Should have it this week.
