Hi all.
Just seen this sprintex kit on ebay:

Does anyone know how easily it will go in a chim and is it worth the effort??

Regards,

Andy.

Historicall TVR V8's have been supercharged with this type of 'Positive' blower mounted within the V with negative results, as the setup could not deliver uniform air/fuel mix to all cylinders resulting with premature detonation and piston failure.

That kit is for a side mounted supercharger, not one that sits over the inlet manifold, the Sprintex delivers its forced charge via a modified plenum, so has no problems delivering an even air mix to all the cylinders.
Hope that helps!

Ok guys thanks for the input but er, who is right here and which kit is it?
I keep looking at the pics but can't work out how/where it all sits. The guy said it's from a tasmin which being older makes me wonder if it isn't as good as newer kits (no intercooler?) or if it would actually fit without hiting the exhausts or other bits.

Best chap to have a word with about Sprintex Supercharged TVR's is Adam

The kit is for the pre serp RV8. It's a good kit but the charger might not flow enough for a 4.5 & above. It would suit & fit a pre serp 4 litre. Now, It looks like it was made for either a Wedge or even a Range Rover so you might find theres not enough room in the engine bay of a Chim or Griff. It's definately not the problematic 'in the V' kit previously mentioned. The charger sits at the side of the engine just like the TVR Power SC kits, so it'll work well on the right engine. yes

That's a bonus 'cos I just happen to have a pre serp 4.0. Think I'll be keeping an eye on that.

Thanks all.

I have the only 1 owner Sprintex TVR in the world. 11 were built and this seems to have come off a car I don't know about - or off an Italian S - the company made a few 2 litre supercharged s cars to get round Italian tax laws

I've had my car for 21 years and the stuff I've read about mixture problems is entirely incorrect. The conversion was engineered by Dennis Priddle of drag racing fame and is an excellent job

If you want to fit one to a TVR it probably won't have enough capacity for an engine over 4 litres. The original conversions were done by Haughins at Barrow in Furness and at the time there was talk of supercharging a Rover engined race Tuscan for hill climbing - conventional wisdom suggested a supercharger for each bank of cylinders

This kit appears not to have e toothed belt - but all the TVRs did. There were also some Sprintex converted Range Rovers and the seller assures me he doesn't know anything about the car it came off

Unfortunately Dave Haughin has been dead these 20 years - but if anyone wants some more details or technical info it might be a good idea to speak with Dreadnought Garage in Scotland as they did R/R conversions and helped develop the TVR application
