This is what happens when you hit a tree at 30-50mph. Head on.

Luckily I managed to T-cut out most of the damage.

dibs on that bonnet, looks like re-modeled profile would help with front end downforce.

Ouch.

If it's not a sensitive question - you said you were doing 30-50mph inb the other thread, I assume the accident was due to 'operator error' rather than anything else?

That or someone threw a can of redbull at him as he went past hehe

Hope you didn't get too messed up from that - looks like it smarted a bit at least ! Did it come into the footwell or anything ?

Firstly, I'm alright. By some complete stroke of luck the tree snapped about a foot off the ground which meant some of the force had dissipated before the car came to a halt. I was thrown into the seatbelt with considerable force and sprained several (!) back muscles. Otherwise no other injuries! Incredibly if you didn't look out the front window from inside the car it would almost look like nothing was wrong, no footwell intrusion etc etc. Incredible really - thank fck for longitudinal engines!

In terms of selling bits (fair question, you utterly insensitive vultures wink ), I've taken a few bits off which I had recently bought and the rest is going to Andy at Autolink. So if you want any bits best to give him a call in a few weeks! wink (not the hood though, that's going on the new one!) Having said that the rad is for sale, might need a bit of radweld however.

Before this post becomes an essay, I better explain how it happened....was mid August and hadn't rained for ages, then overnight it rained and by 0800 it had mostly dried, except on this road with overhanging trees and squirrels. I was trundling along at about 50 on the stretch of road I've driven every day since mid 2009, and on a tight-ish left hander the back twitched suddenly (as did something else), the front went light, I slewed into the bank on the left, overcorrected in every possible direction, slid across the road and down the ditch on the other side, taking out two fence posts with attached barbed wire, and then knocking down a 6" diameter tree. Had to open the roof just to get out the car...from that I guess you could surmise it was driver error in some way getmecoat - but I'm just glad I somehow managed to keep the car facing forwards and didn't end up spinning - backwards or sideways would have left me somewhat worse off when the "stopping very quickly" happened.

Glad to hear it wasn't serious smile (I mean I know it was serious, but serious serious...)

Not raining : Roof up? confused
Probably a good job though, we are very vulnerable with the roof off
I remember coming down the M1 to work one morning, something flew up in the air from a car in the outside lane and landed inches in front of the car in front of me, he did an emergency stop as he had nowhere else to go I managed to get into another lane before I hit him.
It was someone's roof, like one of those targa roofs, I was shaking when I got to work, I just kept thinking of Henry Surtees frown

Haha, should have mentioned the reason for the hood being up...the tan hood had been fitted one week to the day before the accident and was covered in condensation when I went out to the car in the morning. Being conscientious and a tad anal about the car I decided to leave it up in the morning to let it dry out then have it down on the way home from work...

Ouch! It looks quite battered from the outside considering you weren't seriously injured. Nice to know they protect the driver quite well in a head on!

"except on this road with overhanging trees and squirrels."

Yeah, as soon as I saw the photos I knew squirrels would have something to do with it - no doubt they were greys?
