I can't see very well from my screen, but i'm sure the tachomter said the engine was still doing around 5krpm during the spin.

Unless the TT has an ECU borrowed from a Toyota, i'm pretty sure that the revs would have dropped back to idle pretty quickly from pressing the clutch in to pulling the handbrake up.


I think what's more worrying is how quickly it swaps ends. He seems to catch a little slide, then it goes well out of shape pretty quickly.

It looks like he got off pretty lightly there. A bit of bodywork torn off, scraped wheels, and damaged tyres, but no hard contact. At that speed he could have come out much worse.

Shouldn't have been passing multiple cars like that... Classic out-braked himself situation, getting too caught up in the excitement of the overtake... Still, you wouldn't pull the handbrake at that kind of speed.

If it's true he had zero brakes and there is a solid tyrewall at the end of that straight (as per the comments below) he at least saved his car from being a complete write off.

Admittedly should have considered the condition of his brakes before going for that monster overtake but still, I don't think it was the worst idea to pull the lever.

If his brakes were that far gone I wouldn't have though a hand brake would make any difference.
