Sports back box

I currently have a standard de-cat exhaust but am thinking about getting a sports back box.

ACT have some for sale at around £350 I think.

If I get this on my de-cat exhaust what should I expect?

Will the sound be too raspy? Should I expect flames on the overrun?

How many of you would recommend this set up?

The sports back box also looks much smaller so there must be a slight weight saving too? Not much but every little helps I suppose.

I have a JP back box and I have recently had decats installed. It's noticeably louder with the decats. I've measured it at ~104db @ 4000rpm. Lots more pops n bangs on the overrun, but I've not seen any flames yet. The sound is definitely more raspy.

I'm pretty sure there are a couple of guys on here who have gone back to the standard back box after installing decats. I'm going to give this a try as I like the way the car sounds but it is just too loud at times.

As far as the back box is concrened there are a few options, but most seem to go for either the JP Sports Exhaust or TVR Powers option, the choice is yours.

I have Ntels decats with a JP Sports Exhaust. It is loud....very loud, and on full tilt it's mental. I don't think its raspy at all to be honest.

I am informed that it blows flames from time to time.

I have no specifics on weight comparisons between the standard and sports exhaust, but my guess would be the difference is negligable.

The ACT one you mention Diablos is the JP exhaust - I have it on my car, albeit with cats in place. It's loud, tested at 108 at 4500rpm. Post above mentions 104 with de-cats and JP?? Not a chance I'd say, from what I've heard this set up is around 115-118db.

Personally I'd try and hear it first of all on another car as it will be a massive change. I'm not a huge fan of de-cats on their own - I think they sound raspy, but with a decent rear box they do sound good but not too sure I could live with it. My preference is the JP box plus cats as a great halfway house.

WOW 115db - that is bloody loud!!! But to be fair a TVR is meant to be loud.

My original cats was'nt exactly cats anyway, when Jason showed me them there was nothing in them, and the pipe had a very restrictive reducer. He said it looked like someone had tried to de-cat it before but done a very poor job and probably resticted flow.

As for the back-box - As long as it isn't overally loud on idle then i could probably live with the noise when pressing on.

I'll do some more research on them on these forums then. I think the TVR Power one is the loudest so i'll probably avoid that one.

Does it sound really raspy? Did you notice a weight saving from the standard back box vs JP back box?

I think it does sound raspy, in hi revs it is really noisy but its still possible to go on longish journeys without being too intrusive or making your ears bleed

I have tvr power exhausts and the decatts. There's no point sugar coating it, it is fecking loud! Would not choose this combination if your car was a daily user. Doing constant speed on motorway is fine though, sat at 75-80 is just a lovely deep hum. Then it really justifies being called the loud pedal during acceleration.

I have a couple of videos of mine that I will post in this thread tonight, the videos do it no justice though, as you miss out on the depth and bass of the sound. Have a listen and see what you think though.

I have de cats and the JP back box and like others have said its not to intrusive when cruising but fecking loud when your on it!!

Loads of bangs and pops and to be honest I love it! It does not sound raspy like the de cat and standard box combo (tried that) just sounds raw.

Mate, I'm not sure you are grasping how loud this configuration is.....as your estimate is way off the mark!

This car had the same configuration as mine and was measured at the BNG 2008 in Newcastle as follows:

T350c S6 JD03 TVR = 135.5 dB
