part number/suppliers for slave cylinder?
Discussion
Errrr if it is wet carpet inside the footwell caused by the fluid leaking... you need a new master cylinder not a slave.
If the garage is carpeted, then sound like the slave as you say and please disregard first sentence.
Worth getting new pipe unions as well as they invariably change and there is a good chance that it may not be the same as the original.
Be careful not to loose the retaining clip when changing it otherwise it can be a gearbox out job if you don't have the bell housing without the inspection hole. Full details in bible.

cheers for that steve - I have got the bible and read through that section to try and educate a novice.....
AFAIK the slave cylinder is the one at the pedal yes? would make sense in terminology as to what it does...
the master cylinder is the one under the cover with brake pipes underneath it?
The clutch refused to work earlier in the week. My toys went out the pram. On closer inspection the master cylinder was dry as a bone so I have topped this up and pressed the pedal a number of times to get all the air out and now its working fine but obviously needs to be fixed to stop it leaking.
There is a small patch of discolourment and staining on the overmat and it seems to be right underneath the clutch pedal so I assumed the leak was from the slave cylinder directly above and hence the lack of fluid in the master cylinder???
I will be using a mechanic to do the work, but going to buy in the parts myself and need to know what I need and where to get it
Thanks for your help

The Slave is the one on the Bell/clutch housing, uder the car. What you are looking at from the footwell is the bottom of the master (pedal connected to a rod which goes into Master cylinder). You look down on the top of it from the engine housing - that is, where you top-it-up. If you clean up the area around the pedal housing and top up the Master Cylinder again, you may not actually have a leak - it could be that "no-one" has actually checked the level in years and with the relatively small amount of fluid in the system, has just disappeared with heat and small leakage !!
There again, you'd be better off with a new Master Cylinder/set of seals for your Mechanic to fit. Problem is that you may also need a new Slave as well to ensure the system is back to 100% - just watch the warning SHPub gave about playing with the Slave Cylinder and if you have no inspection hole, you'll be charged with a Bell Housing removal - quite expensive in labour charges!!!

ah I see! Thanks both Trev & Steve. All makes sense now.
I am fairly certain its leaking due to the deposit on the mat but the level hasnt noticeably dropped since I topped it up on Wednesday. Dont want to do anything not required but it seems to point to the slave leaking.
Why do you suggest changing the master cylinder as well? Just on the basis it might fail around the same timescale as the slave cylinder? I could do with keeping costs of repair down as my new garage has just been agreed with the builders!
On the other side of the coin, I am off to europe for 2 weeks after le mans and dont want anything to fail during that time!
many thanks
LAst time I did this (on the 520) I did change them both as a precaution but it will double the cost. The fact that you have stated than the car will be going on hols will mean that unless you change both, one will sulk and fail.
I think that now you have no choice but to do both or the Gods will take it badly.
I would pack a seal kit for each - they don't take up much room and will offer a get out of jail free card.
