Just had an Amazing/Unique Road Trip!
Discussion
Last Saturday in Berlin I was handed (along with some colleagues and the Mrs) the key to a rather unique vehicle. A Trabant!!!
If your unaware of this amazing car it was built in 1957 in East Germany and was the only car that the average person could even hope to be able to afford! They built over 3,000,000 of them but you rarely see them at all in Berlin these days.
Into the 2 cylinder, 600cc, 2 stroke, 24hp car we got, all four of us! And off we sped!

The little cars got an amazing reponse, we were a tourist attraction!

Aswell as the Reichstag, we drove around the Brandenburg Gate, Holacaust Memorial, various parts of the wall and Hitler's bunker (Which is now a car park!)

What a way to see such an amazing city and when you add the fact that its the size of Greater London but only has 3,500,000 inhabitants, there's loads of space and the roads arn't busy at all.

A mate of mine used to have one over here. Great fun. He used to run round in it all the time.
There are a couple urban myths, I'm not sure if either are true and I never asked him.
1. If it rains a lot the body panels go a bit soft
2. You could buy them on HP, but it worked in reverse, so you only took delivery of it when you had made your last payment.

I have heard this. We're going for a week at the end of October and plan on doing all our touristy running around in the car.http://www.panam-lounge.org/browse.php?lang=en Fantastic!
At the wheel!

This was a sobering place, Holocaust memorial
One of the MUST visits!
Brilliant! There was a Trabant on the Plymouth -Banjul rally I did in winter 2006/7. They paid £50 for it! It made it all the way to Banjul but sadly no one wants them in Gambia and when the other cars were sold off for charity the Trabbie joined a stock pile of 3 others that hadn't sold over the years! The organisers said they were thinking of doing a 2 for 1 on them!
NB: I took part in a 1972 Beetle, bought for £99, auctioned for £300. Have since driven to Mongolia in a Micra and last year drove UK to Oz in a '69 Beetle - great fun
