Hi Chaps,

I am planning of gating off the side entry on my house (for security and to use the alleyway as a shed/storage area). A wooden gate will suffice.

Doing a bit of research, an before I jump in I thought I would ask the masses.

Alleyway way with is around 90cm- and most gates come in at around 90cm (3 ft).

Either side of the alley way is brick- so I will need batons done either side, and then attach the gate to these?

Does anyone know how much to factor in for the batons- some gates already factor in these measurements by the way!

Cheers for the advice!

Just screw the hinges straight into the brickwork.

Screw a 3x3 post to each side, nicer to put hinges and latches onto imo.

Measure the gap you're left with (6" less than 3ft ish) and take your measurment to your local fencing place and they'll make you one to size.

Before you screw anything to the wall ,

I would suggest measuring the width of the largest obstacle you need to move down the alleyway.

Thanks for the advice chaps- will get on to it.

The largest thing to move down there is my waist, unfortunately!
