2cv has them.
Difficulties, changing the disks, if the engine has a problem, the disks get covered in oil, meaning its pretty tricky to stop.
To change the disks you have to remove the drive shafts, which means either removing the engine and gearbox, or removing the hubs.
Otherwise, they are pretty good.

My old Aston had them at the rear. They were located next to the diff, before the drivestafts took the power to wheels.
So, apart from the heat build up which was known for damaging the seals on the diff, this is wat you had to do to change the pads:
1) Remove rear seats. Seat and squab
2) Open access panel- 12 (?) bolts
3) You can now see the brake calipers. With the thin fingers of a child, but with the strength of an adult, remove the rusted split pins. Then the rusted rods
Then simply pull the pads out towards you.
Removing the caliper was not much harder. But to change the discs was a real pain which most of the rear suspension had to be removed...so most Aston owners didnt bother...meaning high bills for those of us who were restoring it and wnated the car to be right...or shallI say safe
In short, more trouble then its worth.

You were lucky. Ours didn't have the access panel. Needed to drop the diff to change the pads - about 1 week solid labour.So, apart from the heat build up which was known for damaging the seals on the diff, this is wat you had to do to change the pads:
