X-box 360 or PS3?

This has probably been asked a million times now so sorry in advance.
I currently have a 60gb PS3 but think it's on its last legs to be honest, the bloody thing either keeps freezing or turning itself off with a little red light flashing.
So, am thinking about either getting a new PS3 or go over to the dark side and get a 360.
I like the PS3 because network play is free, i prefer the feel of the ps controller and it has an inbuilt battery charger, can play bluerays and the console has an inbuilt wireless router.
A few of my friends who have xbox' swear by them, they say yes you pay for network play but it's much better than the ps3 network and if you get the premium package (£40 jobbie) then you can watch sky sports??? Is that true?
So, which way should i go?

Ideally you want both for the games that are only released on one console, GT5 for example.
Personally, If I had to make my mind up I would go for the Xbox, however it would be with a view to buy another PS3 as soon as funds allow.

Yes i am a very big GT fan - If it's not coming out on the xbox then that pretty much settles the argument for me.
The only game that interests me on the xbox is Halo really. But i'd quiet happpily just play COD and GT5 till all day every day. However, i do like the sound of watching sky sports on the xbox especially if i only have to pay £40 a year - Surely that can't be right though?

A year ago I would of advised you went out and bought an Xbox, despite me having a PS3. It was cheaper and had better games. Now however I think the tables have turned, its taken a few years but the PS3 is finally living up to what it initally promised.
Great games (finally gt5), a blue ray player and the new move motion control which makes the wii look just a bit naff really - whats not to like?

I have both and they are both superb and they are both staying under my TV.
However... if I was forced, I mean properly forced to get rid of one of them then it would I'm afraid be bye bye xbox360. Brilliant console as it is (Forza is huge fun) it just doesn't fully stack up against everything the PS3 can do. Blueray, GT5 very soon and the move.
The Move by the way is simply superb as a control method. Totally accurate in a way that the Wii cannot manage (no lag in movement either and full 3d spacial awareness)
However, I would have to be really FORCED to ditch the 360.
As said by others choose the one your friends have (then keep the PS3 anyway for GT5 and the move)

I was always a PlayStation fan and obviously massive fan of the GT series long before I got an old Xbox and Project gotham and forza 1
don't get me wrong Forza has been a great series (that I really enjoy) but GT always had the edge with the little touches like the moving air brake on the Merc SLR for example
as Civ said though I'd have to be FORCED to chose one over the other in real terms

the premium package - you mean Gold subscription? as far as i know that just allows you to play online!i think you still need to have sky sports on your subscription to enjoy the very few sky channels on the xbox.
they do offer a monthly package to have sports channels etc on your xbox (if you dont already subscribe) but its seriously overpriced and quality is obviously not the same as your feed from a sat dish.
i think to have xbox sky for free, you need a cheaper version of multiroom type package (£5), or have suscribed to sky's broadband unlimited service (£10 - £5 discount with sky talk). much like the new Sky Anytime+ thats coming soon.
I had skys mid package [as can only get 4meg download and 0.8meg upload in my area] but upgraded with the extra fiver a month to unlimited to use this service on the xbox in the games room, but frankly its not been used since about a month after launch as quality isnt as good as SD never mind HD. (so i tend to record the sports in HD upstairs anyway and watch it delayed when the lounge is free).. it does have a nice avatar type opnline lounge which is fun, so you and your friedns can all watch the match together - cheer, clap, do a mexican wave etc, but good luck finding a match to use that in as most people dont bother with it due to cost.. it was busy for about 1 month after go live (free trials) but never used by anyone since i think!
basically its a rip off.
that said the 360 is great, but as others have already said, buy the console that more of your mates are using.. there's nothing in them really. other than a few console specific titles (eg GT on ps3 and Forza on 360)
